Default Guess what i did??

i went SKYDIVING!!!

yesterday, 4 of us from school went to abbotsford to go skydiving at 10am. we registered through ubcRec for $227 a week ago. it is my first time, and so it had to be tandem.

they give you a jumpsuit, a harness and these wacky looking 'hats' with goggles. a small lesson was given at the beginning on jumping positions and techniques. (yes that's me..)

then we hopped on to this ex-military plane from australia:

it was quite crowded inside and i was the last one to jump. i think seeing my friends jump out was the scariest part! then we slid to the door way, swung my legs over the ledge, and after heard "READY?? ok 3...2...1...!!!" then off i was, out of the plane!!!

the first ~6 seconds or so was the best! complete free fall! then after reaching the terminal velocity (we calculated to approximately 190km/hr, i think), then you feel like you're just hanging there, or flying!!!

i thought he was never going to pull the chute, but when he did, it abruptly yanked us to a halt and i was basically vertical. we glided around and i took out my camera and started filming! i was really really careful of not dropping the camera. the view was breathtaking. my instructor did all sorts of spins and moves to make it feel weightless. i loved it!!

the video:

my instructor:

the landing was quite smooth as i basically just sat down and we stopped.
so that was my weekend! along with riding my motorcycle, laser tagging, long boating at jericho, and ballroom dancing! i should be at the autoX right now, but i'm way behind on all my stupid school crap i so should've just went to boundary bay.

later!
jo

Good work! Sounds like fun. I think I have more of a facination with flying the plane rather than jumping out of it though!!

I was going to guess..."Raced a Nissan!" but this is better only by the narrowest of margins.

Good job.

Do they frown upon positionining your hands and feet like a propeller so that you spin out of control, changing as he tries to adjust?

Must... resist....posting...SubieDrift's JDM pose. I wish I wasn't so scared of his wife.

Looks like a lot of fun, Jo. Not something that I would easily be conned into doing. I work on the 19th floor of a building downtown, that's high enough for this guy.

i've always wanted to do it but i can't find anyone who would go with me. then my friend decided to go jump out of a plane for his birthday and we made the decision to go in 0.02 seconds!

i'm not sure what the cost would be without the discount, but i heard around $350-400... which is equivalent to new parts for our babies!! however, it is definitely a well worth experience though! i wanted to do it again right after i touched the ground

hmm now should i tell my mom i jumped out of a plane? or should i tell her i have a motorcycle?

Skydiving is awesome. I did it 8 years ago my first time and I got to do a static line jump... was amazing. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. The hardest part is actually taking that first step out of the plane...

lostmind: what's a static line jump?

J-chow: you should go skydiving to get over your fear of heights! haha and by that height there wasn't really anything to relate to so distance/height is just out of the picture! you'll love it! i bothers me to look over edges like that too when the floor is right there

i want to try sky diving at some point this year... about a month ago, i saw a 30-man jump at 15000 feet and it amazed me. how much did it cost you to sky dive in abbotsford? im not sure whether to go to the one in abbotsford or the one in pitt meadows.

I'm just guessing, but isn't a static line jump the one where when you jump out of the plane...and your chute automatically opens up almost right away, because there is a break away cable that pulls your rip chord for you? That way it is idiot proof and you are allowed to jump solo, even your first time? Just a guess?
