Default Nav system remote?

I know there is a remote sensor input on the back of the nav unit under the seat, and I have seen the test section for it in the diagnostic screen... Does anyone know if the system will actually work with a remote? Because then I'll try and find a Kenwood navigation remote and hook up an IR sensor. The screen is so far away that being able to use a remote on it would be awesome.

I also noticed that the nav system is capable of being fed TMC traffic information, I'd be curious if our Subaru software allows that to actually work with one of the Kenwood TMC receivers...

Do you really need a remote control for something 2 feet away?

Subaru really needs to get a nav system software and hardware upgrade that will allow traffic info to be displayed. It is seriously the only major convenience feature that is missing as an avaialabe feature from the Tribeca that I would REALLY like!

I don't NEED a remote, I want one though. The monitor is pretty far away and my wife has a hard time reaching it.

As for traffic; the system in the B9 does seem ready for a TMC receiver, it shows the status of the traffic receiver in the diagnostic menu so the software seems to be ready for it. I may just purchase the Kenwood receiver and see if it works.
