Unhappy My Gas Milage Sucks!!!

Why does my gas milage suck so much... I had to get my ecu reprogrammed cause it dropped to cyls cause it was running slightly out of tolerance. And my gas milage sucked then, it equally sucks now. I'm getting like 8m/g That totally sucks ass....

Does anyone else have this problem?

Eight miles to the gallon is unacceptable. It's OK to get 8 mpg in a V-10 Viper or a V-12 Diablo, but not on a WRX. Something is definitely out of whack. Do you have a very heavy right foot?

Take it to the dealer, that is just unacceptable. Something is not working right.

Have a Nice Day? im taking it in this week...

ok welp im taking it in this week and talking to someone.. Like I said I allready had my ECU sent back to subaru to get reprogrammed, therefore it got reset, and for like 1/2 tank after that my car sounded and ran great, then my exaughst sound gargoly (i dont think thats a word) like you can hear liquid inside it when rpms drop below 2000rpm... Its wierd... On the upside my car has great proformance, but I think im gonna break a couple O2 sensors if i dont get this looked at...

you might have already broken an O2 sensor. Gargly huh... Here, try this, have a friend drive behind you in another car, and drive at a faster than normal pace (NOT WOT). Ask the person behind you to watch for smoke, and keep the windows down.

If he see's black smoke, and/or smells fuel you're rich. If he smells rotton eggs, one of your Cat converters quit (MIGHT cause a run rich, and running overly rich can cause the cat to die At WOT you should run rich, but not normal cruising.

If you popped an O2 sensor, the car would run chronically rich, but it SHOULD throw an ECU code. There's a chance it's just malfunctioning, and not totally broken.

You shouldn't just "take it to the dealer," you want to have decent knowledge of what the problem is so you don't get screwed.

I get about 20-22 mpg in the city/highway and about 24-24 mpg highway driving. Something is very wrong with your WRX. I know you know this but I would get it looked at again and refuse to take it home unless it's fixed. And ask for a loaner car while yours is being looked at.

Have you done any intake "mods?" A malfunctioning or dirty air filter can cause poor fuel economy and poor engine perfromance without tripping the MIL.

When did you buy your car and how many miles does it have now?

he is a close friend of mine, the only mods he has are the sti exaust and the gauge pack. nothing that should screw with his mileage. i was with him when we took his car in to subaru, and they replaced his ecu, aparantly he had a few cylinder misfires, and the engine was running on only 2 cylinders under heavy load. subaru seemed to thing the ecu was dumping fuel into the engine to prevent knock. who knows what is wrong, but it realy does get terrable gas milage. has anyone had anything even remotely similar happen to there rex?

actually you pull timing away to prevent knock and you would bleed boost on a turbocharged car.
