Unhappy My good friend needs surgery. Advice?

My good friend needs surgery for a complicated procedure. He recently found out that he wasn't fertile after having tried for 2 years to have children with his wife. His doctor suggested some rather new surgical procedure to be done in order to get things moving (for a lack of better words). He had one procedure done a couple of months ago to possibly help him and is currently taking shots 3 times a week as well.

He found out yesterday that one more surgery needs to be done to complete the process. The only thing is, the first surgery was paid for by his insurance. This second won't be covered by his insurance. Oddly enough, his doctor says they need the payment up front before the surgery can be done. The procedure is going to run into the thousands.

He and his wife have asked me to do them a favour; they're asking me to see if I can find some kind of foundation or organization that can assist them in paying for this procedure. They're going to eventually try in-vitro fertilization as well. But, they want to at least give this surgery a try.

Can anyone suggest where I should look? I'd really like to help them out. They've been trying to have kids and they really deserve the chance.

In case you're wondering, they aren't too financially well-off, don't own a home and don't own any cars. In fact, he pays for all his mother's apartment and care costs. He's a good man and his wife is a great woman and I'd like to see what I can do.

Thanks, guys.

C/N: Good guy friend needs surgery, wants to know if foundation/org. can help him pay

I know, I tried telling them that, but they're very adamant. I think the wife is being a little selfish, but what can I say? It's what they want and I'm just trying to support them against my own opinions.

She's full Mexican and he's full Scottish so they want to have a beautiful baby of their own.

I can't imagine there's a foundation that helps people pay for fertility treatment when there are so many children who need to be adopted.

If there is, that's pretty crass.

I'm hopeful that most foundations help those who really need help, not those who selfishly want to photocopy their own genes.

So let me get this straight.

Is he producing sperm? They just can't get from point A (nuts) to point B (urethra) and the point C (beaver)? So they're going through all this rigamaroll so they can have sexual conception?

If this is the case, why can't they just harvest the sperm from his nuts via whatever they do to harvest sperm and do IVF?

If you're going to correct someone on their grammar or context, at least spell the work correctly -->'Semantics'

Foundation = second mortgage

They can do things to raise the money themselves, can't they? Or, ask family.

It's not everyone's else's charitable financial burden to bear for your roadblock.

Well, in your case, need may be more appropriate.

They don't have a first mortgage. Or a home. Or cars.

This is one of those cases in America where the financially struggling just can't do some things that the financially secure can do.
