Default people who have to look at the gear shift

I notice this occassionally. See someone look down to put the car in reverse or park or something. Saw a girl in a red lancer do it today, right before she started backing down the middle of a busy street.

It makes me want to not be on the same road as they are on.

I hope to god the people I see do this are driving automatics... otherwise, we're all doomed.

WRX owners look down at their gear shift often. Usually that's because it grinds every other time.

when I drive my dad's car I need to look down to put it in reverse.

'91 911, reverse is up and to the right and I always seem to put it in 5th instead.

I do that. It's like looking back at the crack in the sidewalk you just tripped over.

What I don't get is, what car with a slush box doesn't have a gear display in the instrument cluster?

but they need to watch their hand to see how many times to click it or something.

Makes me doubt their eye-hand coordination. which... some would say, might have an effect on their driving skills.

I don't think I've ever driven an automatic that had a display in the cluster

Maybe I've just never looked for it.

Couldn't get to 23... So either you're a WOMAN, or you're NUTLESS??? Which one is it?

Yeah, shifting w/o looking is the norm for me, and even the wife (who's only been driving stick for ~3 years)... I could see having to look down if it's someone else's car to verify the layout, especially when you first get in so you know where reverse and 5th/6th might be....

Nikki does have issues with my car though because she'll go from 2nd to 5th because I have a short throw adjusted to very short throws, and in the MINI it feels like rowing a damn boat to me, so yeah, sometimes she'll misshift my car and look down at it like WhyTF is it going so slow...

I sometimes look at my gearshift to make sure I'm in 5th gear.

Then again, the gear ratio on the 318i is WAY low and I run 4k RPM's at 80mph.

That's like counting on your hands, and using both the fingers and knuckles.

I've never understood why they refer to the crotch as "where it counts." You've heard it. "I'll kick you where it counts!" ...or "The baseball glanced off the bat and hit the catcher right where it counts." WHY IS THAT?

Seriously. On it's OWN, it can't count past "one." It doesn't make sense.
