new hydra, car starts then dies.
i just installed my new hydra. i've only gotten as far as calibrating the TPS. every time i start up the car it jumps up to about 2000, then tapers off and dies.
- if the map is set to read from the wb02, will it cause the car to die if the sensor is not yet plugged in or calibrated? - after you download a map to ecu, do you close out of the little com1 screen before or after you turn the ignition off and on. the reason i ask this is because if i download a map, turn the car off(wait15)and back on, when i hit upload from ECU and then MAPS it say untitled at the top of the maps screen instead of the map i just downloaded.

A little more information would be a significant help. What car, mods, etc? What base map are you running (there are usually comments when you upload)?
Thanks, Phil |

it's an 18g 800cc map for an 03 wrx. all the mods. out of the ordinary might be the tgv deletes.
i have the wb02 wired into the ecu but that's it. the sensor isn't yet calibrated or even plugged into the other half of the black harness. |

03 wrx, all the normal mods including catless and tgv deletes.
base map is your 18g 800cc. i have the 02 wired into the ecu but haven't calibrated it or even plugged the black harness together yet. car idles for about 15-20 seconds, if that, then dies. chris |

Chris,
Get back with me about what discussed. Once I see your data logs I should be able to guide you towards tuning or checking for mechanical issues. Thanks, Phil |

i finally got the car running today. i had to step the fuel up a few times in order to idle at about 14.7 jumping up to 15 or so every few minutes.
my psi always reads "0". does this mean that my vaccuum line is wrong or something? |

If your boost always reads "0" and you are actually under boost then you have not installed your boost/vacuum source correctly to the Hydra EMS and it will not function properly as it uses vacuum and boost to determine the correct load site. Keep in mind if you are referring to the display on the main tuning window labeled “PSI” it only reads positive manifold pressure. There is also a vacuum gauge that will show negative manifold pressure. Thanks, Phil www.elementtuning.com |

i just went out and check my vaccuum hose. it doesn't appear to have any splits, cuts, and/or kinks. it is located between the manifold and the valve just like in the installation guide pictures. the barbed fitting sticking out of the hydra has a little bit of a wiggle to it though. might that be the problem?
is ther any other place that i could put it in the vaccuum system? with closed loop disable- the car idles fine but drives rich sometimes it get below 10.1 with closed loop enaled- the car idles rough and i haven't tried to drive it. |

Read the user manual and the tuning guides as you have made some simple mistakes that have lead to large problems. It's a matter of tuning your car now.
Thanks, Phil |

i'm going to start at square one again. inspect the hose again, reload original base map, calibrate TPS, and see what happens.
at what point should i recalibrate the wideband and enable the two closed loop buttons? and should i also be setting the rpm blocks in the closed loop as well? |

Start over and leave all the default settings as I had them with the exception of the TPS calibration. Most of the recent Hydras I've already calibrated the WB for you. If so then when you "upload" you will see in the description my calibration notes.
Also I have setup the "closed loop" settings where I feel the best performance is realized. This will differ from the tuning guide notes. Once you install your WB all you need to do is click one button, "enabled closed loop." Thanks and good luck. Phil www.elementtuning.com |

thanks for the info phil. what you just said does indeed differ from what i had taken from the tuning guide notes. i'll give it a try. i still don't understand the whole "0"psi thing. but i'll mess with it a little.

You're welcome. The "PSI" gauge only reads positive manifold pressure. There is a separate gauge for "vacuum" that reads negative manifold pressure. You can always "track" what your Hydra is doing in your fuel map or run a "data log."
Thanks, Phil www.elementtuning.com |
