Wink 18g too small for ej207 you say?

Well thought I'd post a couple of logs from tuning yesterday. Lots of people on this board have said the 18g is too small for the ej207, I call BS. Ride5000 had fun doing some speed density tuning on my car. Everything was going great till an intercooler hose blew off at 23psi. Fixed that did some more pulls and tuning. Went to drive home and now I've got a pre turbo exhaust leak

My car hates me, but we got some good pulls and logs in before the leak reared its ugly head. The car is by no means fully tuned, still got a long way to go. You can see how rich it's running at redline, almost at 100% idc's.

Here's my mods:
JDM V7 Sti (ej207)
Deatschwerks 750cc Injectors
M2 TMIC
Coolingmist Vari-cool WI
JDM/AUS Utec
Greddy 8cm 18g(T518Z)
NGK Irridium 1 step colder
GM boost solinoid
ERZ downpipe
Blitz Touring catback
Modded stock BPV
APS turbo Inlet pipe
K&N Typhoon Intake
Sti uppipe
Walbro 255 Fuel pump
Apexi Turbo Timer
Synic EL headers

These logs were made on 93 pump w/out WI.

This 3rd gear one shows how it's still making boost to redline:

Why would anyone ever say an 18g is too small? Too small for what... It depends on what you need it to do.
Damn Boost Junkies.

An 18g is great for a lot of different stuff like daily street driving and autoXing. A 20g won't be as good for those but will build more boost up top. Maybe bigger boost was their basis for comparison. There is a purpose for every turbo and there isn't one turbo that is best at everything. Enjoy your choice and move on.

It kinda looks like your ignition timing is up and down all over the place, a little bit, same with your boost. That's just me though. But if the car doesn't stutter and it pulls then I'd be happy. And the spools looks like it comes on nice.

Your looking at the wrong column for my ignition timing. The one you are looking at is what the ECU wants to run. The Mod ign is what the UTEC is actually running. Boost still needs some work as we were trying to get rid of the ocillations.

by the way, i've got some tricks to try with the boost map to reduce the oscillations, george.

but first, fix that damned rattle and find your exhaust leak...

no ADI tune yet, louis--but when that gets fired up we're gonna boost the crap out of this little 18g.

Looks like I have a cracked uppipe and it's leaking bad. Should be fixed in a couple weeks and I'll throw it on the dyno.

the greddy 18G is a great turbo. I believe that the 8cm makes it signifigantly better than the MHI variants that people get.

I would trade my green for a greddy 18G/ex gate/WI setup. perfect for the street and such.

do you have avcs enabled yet sonic? Have you made any progress tuning it, and is it apparent in the logs when avcs kicks in? I've had nothing but trouble getting it working in my turd.

nice work so far/
Hunter

Hunter,

My AVCS is up and running, I actually used the first IA Performance AVCS kit Stephen made. Worked perfectly and was easy to hook up. I did struggle for months trying to wire it up myself to no avail until I got the kit. Haven't done any tuning with the AVCS yet, may try it later using enginuity, but that will require dyno time and the only person that seems to really know what changes AVCS tuning is Clark and I'm sure he won't share his secrets

I've thought about an external gate, but I'm not a fan of the sound. I've worked hard to make my car to be super quiet for what it is. Plus I haven't seen a need for it yet as the Greddy has a 13psi internal wastegate and has no trouble holding boost to redline.

George
