Default My98... SAFC or Tec chip from imprezars.com?

Hi people. I am a MY98 RS owner. I did a search...... but came up with nothing pertaining to my question. I wanted to know if I should be getting the Tec chip from imprezars.com or the Apexi SAFC ? Aren't they the same thing.... meaning an air/fuel regulator? Or are they not. Will either have problems with my MAF? Or will it help with an aftermarket intake? I really need to know because I have money to spend for once and need some extra pull. Thankyou very much in advance.....

i don't know much about the chip, except i think it richens the mixture. my car was already running rich (after intake and exhaust mods) so i use my s-afc to lean my mixture out. it helps some, but don't expect a huge change. .1-.2 faster 0-60 maybe.

I bought the S-AFC, and hope to have it installed soon. Check out Kartboy.com, they have a pretty cool carbon fiber mount for it too, to use with the Subaru gauge housing (I bought one, and am hoping it comes soon). If you buy the S-AFC, you'll probably want to buy an Air/Fuel gauge, and/or EGT gauge+temp probe as well for tuning. If you have the money, and access to a dyno, you could do that too. Hope that helps.

well... if by tec, you mean TEC-II, it's much more than the S-AFC. it's a whole engine management system. It's more expensive, but has more control and does spark control too. You'll need a laptop to program it. it's a very cool system, but w/o a turbo, I've come to the conclusion its kind of overkill. I have a TEC-II, but no turbo(long story, but basically, I had one, but decided I didn't want to install it) so i think I'll be removing the TEC-II and selling it. if you're interested, let me know.

The Torque Chip II I sell works great with a MY97-99 (well 1995-2002) with stock or aftermarket intake. It is not adjustable like an S-AFC but allows the car to accelerate faster and allows the ECU to learn proper air fuel requirements faster.

I have a customer selling his Field AFC after installing a TCII if you want it, but you'll be happier with the TCII

Hey Larry guess what...... I gave in about 2 hours before you just posted and bought the chip from your site. . BTW..... the air intake you have for my model year car..... does it run good with the MAF and is it a decent hp increase? Also...... howw much is it total if I want you to supply all the parts to make my own CAI for MY98? How hard is the install for me.... a person with limited mechanical ability?

I'm on tonight, I just don't see the order. Confused Did you use the paypal shopping cart and check out, or accidentally leave the item in the shopping cart

Email me about the intake, larry@imprezars.com so I have an idea of what you want. Thanks!

Larry, I want the intake for the MY98 but I want to make it a CAI like it says I can do with your parts on your site. How dependable is your setup for the CAI, does it run into problems? Does it give at least some hp gain?

BTW I want to use a credit card but not paypal again since my paypal limit is nearing. Can you pm me with a number to call or something to just use a credit card without paypal? I am going to buy this ASAP if you can tell me that the intake is beneficial...I am a very trusting person.

Hey,

Just email me with the items you want to order, like torque chip, etc and include your name, shipping address and phone number. Then call toll free 866-SCOOBY-2 and leave CC number and exp date on the voice mail or fax to that number. I can ship the TC out tomorrow after you order. So, I am guessing the TCII is still in the shopping cart?

The problem with making a CAI for the MY98, is you have to lose the air plenum and use a j-tube intake tube since the PRM Racing filter and MAF don't have enough room to fit between the plenum and the fender. You need a special j-tube just for the MY98 with a 1" vacuum nipple for the idle control valve.

I can get you a Weapon-R ($190 shipped), PRM filter (about $150 shipped), and the 45 degree bend to run into the inner fender with the silicone to protect it from vibrating in the inner fender ($50 shipped). The Weapon-R already includes a 3" MAF adapter, so if you use another MY98 J-tube (for the proper vacuum nipples) you will need to buy the adapter from my site too.

Thanks!

Larry

PS: The PRM intake is beneficial, but I think the cone filter for the MY98 that is listed at www.imprezars.com/shoppingcart.htm will not lose any low end like a j-tube style intake.
