OK, I'm about to put my rocker assembly together and I can;t figure out how to allign anything because of all the marks. On my crank timing belt pulley there is a blue dot, a triangle, and a line. all in different areas.
On my two cam sprockets there are a big arrow, a blue painted on dot, and a little line like on the crank timing pulley. What lines up with what??? Please help here. Thanks Eric

the aarow's point up on the cam pulleys....you will see white dots painted on the CAM and CRANK pulley. There will 3 white lines on your T-Belt...line that all up and you'll be set to go but MAKE sure all those white marks line up otherwise you just thru your valve timing all to hell.

Don't listen to someone who works on Hondas!
The arrows at 12:00 mean #1 TDC. To install the Cam Belt, arrange the Cam gears and the Crank gear with the "Line" at 12:00. This will put them in APPROXIMATE position to install the belt. The left Cam will be loaded and the right Cam will not. To install the belt, either go buy a new Cam Belt from Subaru or find a Subaru Service Manual so you can get the tooth-count between cam marks and crank mark. You should have marked these on the belt as well as the direction of rotation before you took it off. The position of the gears is only approximate because it doesn't really matter, the number of teeth between the marks is what is important. What are you sealing your Cam Cases with? Don't use RTV Silicone. |

Why shouldn;t I use RTV? That's what the Shop manual suggests and what was on it from the factory. Do you know how many teeth should be on the belt between gears?

Here is the tooth count instructions from the SM. It is from the Forester book but is the same for Impreza.
Nevermind. It is too much work to post a pic here. I have the SM on CD and was going to copy the page. Between the Crank mark and the R. Cam mark is 46.8 teeth Between the Crank mark and the L. Cam mark is 43.7 teeth After you set-up the belt and release the tensioner, turn the crank back and forth and check to make sure the marks still line up. Turn the crank over 2 revolutions and make sure the Crank and Cam marks still line up. Once you turn over the engine the belt marks will no longer match up to the gears. I don't know what Service Manual you are reading, but Subaru does not say to use Silicone RTV. The solvent in the RTV is destructive to O2 sensors, and it doesn't work well. For the Cam Case Subaru recommends Threebond 1280B, part #K0877YA018. This is also what came on the engine "from the factory". |

When you say right and left, you mean Left is Driver and right is Passenger correct?

SubyTechMaster, Hondatech actually has torn down ej25's quite a few times now. Dont discount it. He has practical experience inside of subary motors. Just cause he mainly works on hondas doesnt mean he doesnt know what he's talking about.
