Default CD-ROM problem, need some help.

I was trying to re-install an old game a few minutes ago. The first disc ran and installed its contents without a hitch but when I was prompted to insert the second disc my device didn't seem to be able to read it.

When I listened closely to the drive operating it sounded as if it was trying to read the disc but coming to a sudden halt.

When I double click the icon for the D: drive I get a message saying that the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

When examining the second disc I noticed a few scratches so I attributed the problem to that. But when I tried to run an uscathed and brand new music CD I encountered the same halting sound and same problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I may fix this? Or could it be a physical problem that would warrant me bringing it in somewhere to have it fixed?

Thanks OT.

Hmm, it seems to have fixed itself. Weird.

Can a mod please delete this? Thanks.
