I think it's worth mentioning that kingpin spread the Free injector mod, FPR crush mod, and has now developed the Kingpin1820 and 1818 turbos. Innovation...as it says on the website right. Also a thanks to mike who's always got a minute for me.

Haven't done any deals with these guys yet, but I had sent them an e-mail with questions regarding a v7 or v8 swap into a 98 rs. They got back to me right away and continued to quickly respond to further questions. I'm looking forward to doing the swap with these guys. Have heard nothing but good things about them.

We are excited to work on this project as well. WE love doing conversions. Nothing like the OEM quality to add big power to your car. Can't wait and thanks BTW for the kind words.

Just got my version 7 engine long block. Even though there was a slight problem with shipping, Mike stepped up and fixed it straight away. Great vendor and good prices. Michael

All this good praise... far be it from me to bring everyone down, but bad things do happen, and unfortunately Kingpin was the one to do it, this time.

See, I have a customer whom is in need of a 6 speed transmission. He had found a deal through Kingpin and I decided to call to see if there was any level of professional courtesy with a price break (which there happened to be). After setting up this deal which included (this is an exact quote from him in our PM conversation) "trans. shifter, linkage, clutch and fly wheel, driveshaft, axles, hubs, brakes, and rear diff is $####.".

I continued talking to him about the brakes and clearance issues since this is going onto a raced and sometimes rallied car (hence the need for smaller size wheels). His statement about the brakes was "This does come with the brembos but it is not usually a problem in the rear. I am sure the fronts would need spacers but the rear should fit ok. I have had volks over them before.". Sounds to me like it comes with front brakes... unless I'm reading too far into a partial statement here.

He also stated "The price for the rear includes the entire rear subframe including lateral links and trailing arms as well as the actual subframe itself. Just as it would have gone in on assembly line. We just unbolt subframe and remove as one unit. You can then just rebolt it complete into your vehicle."

So it came time for my customer to call in his credit card number... half an hour goes by and he calls me back stating that all of a sudden Mike says that it does not come with knuckles (ok, that was never specifically stated, just assumed since it was all unbolted and sent out whole), but then he says that front brakes aren't included, hubs aren't included, lateral links aren't included, and clutch and flywheel aren't included. ... what?

So essentially, they wanted $7000 for a trans, shift linkage, driveshaft, axles, rear diff, and rear brakes.

I suggest before anyone makes a deal with these guys for anything larger then a BOV that they get exactly what comes with it in writing. Otherwise you'll end up like my customer has... with a $7000 check from a home equity loan that was just taken out, and no driveline. Let's also not forget that they were trying to sell us used parts that can be had for about the same price as brand new parts from the dealership.

Sorry for the confusion Nick. We sell these on a regular basis and the price has been the same for some time. 6 Speed trannies go for $3500 with the shifter linkage. Rear subframe complete for $3500. That is 7k. I told you guys I would do it for $6500. And that I would hold it for you with no deposit which I did for several weeks. When I spoke with your customer this morning I told him we do not usually sell these with the front axles or hubs but I am willing to throw them in for him. Just trying to be a nice guy. The front Brembo brakes are an extra $1200. That has been the case from the begining. I am sorry that you misunderstood. We had discussed the fact that your customer did not want the front brembos because they would not fit under his Volks with out spacers. This is when I mentioned to you that the rears should clear fine, with no spacers, as quoted.

"The price for the rear includes..." Yes rear.

We do drop the rear out of the car as a unit. The whole subframe comes out. It does and always has included the rear trailing arms and lateral links. The axles, hubs, rotors and calipers, even the rear sway bar and links. Not to mention the subframe itself. I did not tell you customer anything different.

The tranny is not attached to the sub frame up front as I am sure you know. It has it's own bracing. So the front axles, and such would not be attached to it anyway.

I am sorry you do not agree with the going price but that is what we do and have always sold them for. Again I apologize for the confusion. I certainly did not try to decieve you in any way and I think that these are decent prices. I am sorry you disagree. I think that everyone else we have sold this combination to would disagree as well. Thank you. Ang good luck with the car. Sounds like a great project and I wish we could've been a part of it.

Mike

Yup, but that statement was specifically regarding the rear subframe and your removal about it, therefore not pertinent to the front end components.

This sure as hell sounds to me like front brakes are included.

Don't try passing 100% of the blame to me for you never saying exactly what you were selling, just letting the customer assume. I can only imagine how unprofessional I would've gotten had it come on the truck and showed up sans the parts that I expected to be there.

Also, don't try and nail me with holding you up. The "car" showed up at your place this time last week, before of which (Feb. 28th to be exact), I offered to send a down payment that day of $500 to hold onto the driveline until the final money came through. Fortunately for both me and my customer, you declined stating that you trusted me for it.

Mike used to work for Vivid, about 2 years ago. IIRC, both companies had their website done by Chain Reaction, who is a leader in the OSC based website development.

Kingpin has set out to make a good name for itself, and I believe based on the tons of feedback I've seen on the board, they have done that.

So, Kingpin != VR.

Yeah I guess it happens but I am really disappointed we could not find a solution for him. We work really hard to make sure our customer service is top notch, however is was also a good lesson for us. So i guess it is a victory in that sense. Thanks.

I thought the Tranny from the dealer is around that price? Isn't the tranny like $5000? I know for a fact that the front and rear brakes frlom the dealer cost $3000+

$600 per caliper
$350 per rotor
$300 for paids
$100 for clips, springs, pins, bolts, and extra.

Oh well...just wondering.

As far as I know you would be hard pressed to get STi 6 spd tranny, shifter linkage, STi front axles, front hubs, driveshaft, rear subframe, r180 rear diff, STi rear axles, rear hubs, rotors, rear brembo calipers, rear rotors, sway bar, swaybar links, trailing arms, lateral links, ect..for $6500. This was the offer we made that he refused. If I am incorrect please advise. Thanks.
