It really did fix my hesitation problems I was having. I also added in an amsoil panel filter in the first airbox near the fender.

I get no hum or other annoying noises. Quite a bit more dirt is sucked up, but the amsoil filter keeps it all out of the engine.

Wink Just to clarify...

It isn't obvious from this thread, but I have already done the full Peaty version of the snorkusectomy and I have a K&N panel airfilter as well. I had no particular complaints before doing the mod, just figured "hey, free horsepower"! Mine is very much noisier than stock (I have had the K&N in for years, snorkusectomy done for a couple months). I can't truthfully say I have noticed anything other than the humming at idle and the intake noise under hard acceleration. If it isn't really gaining me any power, I will probably try a partial version that sucks cold air only but keeps all or most of the silencer.

I think if you went to the NA forum and did a search you would find a wealth of info.
I did a snorkus-ectomy on my 97 OB. I think it sounded better but could not claim any increase in performace. I would stay away from the Weapon R, alot of the people that have them complain about low end loss, power loss where actual driving takes place.
With the 98 having a MAF you have to be careful not to burn the element out or break the film.

Mine sounded super cool, but was pretty much useless performance wise. I put everything back for the foul weather season.

Nope. The Legacy never had the hot-film MAF. It had a hot-wire MAF in the pre-2K cars (w/ the DOHC engine), then switched to a MAP with the SOHC engine in the current model. It was only the 99 2.5 RS that was saddled with the hot-film MAF (perhaps the Forester too, but not too many people are modding those).
