Default Custom mid-pipe? DAMN expensive!

Could I take my car to a muffler shop, and have them make me a custom 2.25" mid-pipe for my car with flanges on it so I dont have to spend an outrageous $150+ for a stupid 18" of STRAIGHT pipe...

I mean come on people, whats SO great about this little pipe that it costs MORE than the entire cat-back on my last car (87 300XZ, $80 for install, $30 for muffler, $30 for tip = $140)

I got my midpipe done for $80. I don't see why it cost so much too.

Depends on how many bends and welding they have to do, the material you use, how much extra work they have to do to fit it on your car. You can get crush bent tubes for pretty cheap, but you get what you pay for. If you want mandrel bent stainless, get ready to pay about $200. Luckily, our plumbing doesn't require a lot of bends.

I was wondering the same thing!

I paid like $275 for mine from Subaru Lachute.....its resonated, Otherwise, a non-resonated one is like $175 (those prices are in CAD$). Its not just straight, theres a bit of a bend in it....but, I guess you can get one made at a muffler shop...just weld on 2 flanges to a straight pipe. Hmmmmm....

well... I'm gettin' mine done at a shop... it's gonna be about 125 for the whole thing... I'll let you guys know how it turns out... did I already say that? anyway... if you want good work you gotta pay for it... I already had mine done once... went to midas... they ****ed everything up... terrible welds, and they scratched up the coating on the bottom of my car... go some place good... not midas... if you're in Dallas, I went to Nicks Muffler in Plano... nice guy, seems to know what he's talking about and fair prices... hard to find tho... little bay in an airplane hangar...

didn't ask him about the headers... he probably could... but w/ all the problems everyone else is having making equal length headers, I don't know that he could do any better... but he did great work on my new exhaust... it's off a 2002 WRX... fits nice, but it's QUIET... heh... I forgot how quiet my car could be... I kept checking to see if it had died... it also seemed to be running much smoother...
He found another problem w/ the job midas did... they swiped my springbolts! so the exhaust couldn't move or anything like it should... it was also leaking... arg...
anyway... it's so much nicer now... tho I kinda miss the grumble I had w/ the magnaflow...
