Default Opinons of Stromung mid-pipe

Another I-club memebr told me about his configuration on a 2.5 impreza, it was a Scooby sport muffler and a Stromung mid-pipe. He had a sound file and it sounds great.

I also heard from another member who mentioned that the Stromung mid-pipes tend to be really noisy, can anyone validate this and can offer other suggestions besides making your own. I have no welding skills let alone the materials. Thanks!

The Midpipe is definitely not too noisy, although you do get rid of a resonator. I like mine, and would buy it again if I had the choice. It's supposedly good for maybe 1-2 hp, although I don't know anybody who's done a dyno test (not even Stromung). All in all, I feel so far that Stromung is a good quality product, with good gains.

The Stromung mid-pipe is of superior quality, but yes, it does make the car a little louder as it does not have a resonator like the stock.

But I have heard of members bringing their cars to muffler shops and just having them weld a resonator into their stromungs.

The Stromung mid-pipe also removes a catalytic converter, as well as the resonator on MY02 RS's. I have the full Stromung deal, front to back. The sound is beautiful, it isn't loud, dosen't resonate inside the interior, and dosen't attract attention. I drive a 6 hour round trip about every other weekend... it dosen't drone at high revs and I didn't even have to up my music volume to compensate for increased noise. Do note however that Scoobysport is quite a bit louder than Stromung. I think you are going to pick up more noise and resonance from the Scoobysport muffer than from a Stromung mid-pipe. I say go with the pipe, if anything just to get rid of that third cat.

Default third cat?!?!

As quoted from the TV show Different Strokes, "Watcha talkin' 'bout Willis?"

There are only two cats on an RS as seen with the stock headers:

You must have gotten the track pipe as well -- it's the track pipe that replaces the two catalytic converters.

The MY02 RS has 3 cats in the exhaust... the two that are shown in the pic you posted, plus another behind those in the mid-pipe

Maybe the design is different with the MY02s. I only lost the resonator on my MY99. Again, not too loud, and I think the sound is fantastic. Now, I'm struggling with which header to get.

As i type away here im lookin at a brandnew Stromung SS midpipe, that i will be installing tomorrow.I have had fr a year, just the Stromung dual tip with stock pipes and cats.
That setup was quite good and i did note a good performance increase along with that great Stromung sound.
Now im doin the whole exhaust thing,Random Tech high flow cat (cobb)and Stromung midpipe and dual tip. This is in preperation fr the Cobb cams that are on order.
Im sure it's gonna be louder and im figurin on probably picken up some quicker revs .
Ill give ya the results when i get it done.

Just installed the Stomung SS Dual Tip Catback on Saturday. Took less than 15 minutes on a lift with only 3 bolts. In combination with Larry's CAI the car pulls much better through the RPM's and sounds great (No go-kart Honda sound from this engine). Anyone want a stock stereo? I won't be needing it anymore.

Default Random tech cat, stromung midpipe and dual tip

Well,, i put it all together today,,,,,,,and it IS LOUD.Im thinken a resonator in the midpipe will help.
Performance wise, lost some, but very little low end, high end is another story,,from 2700rpm up it just screams to redline bang the rev limiter hits and off ya go to third and so on.My car is an automatic car,,,,second pulls to 65mph now,,,quickly,, third to around 85 i think cause i backed off then ,,traffic.
So far im very pleased with the performance, but it is loud.Im thinken the cat must be doin this cause ive known others with the Stomung catback setup, and its not THIS loud.
Rudy
ps also got my 1st CEL light too,,but i kinda expected that .The exhaust is not gettin hot enough fr the rear O2 sensor.
pss.Mods on the engine are,larrys intake,magnecor wires,unorthodox underpulley.
