Default So is the in-cabin MBC I bought not adequate for a legacy turbo setup?

I bought Turbosmart's In cabin Boost controller. I have read a lot of things saying it will not be good for around 5 psi. Is this true? I thought it would be fine as they make good products.

Thumbs down

you DO NOT want to use an MBC for a low boost app, especially on a high compression engine like the RS. You'll spike and BOOM. If you're fuel system is up to it, and you don't get a huge spike (like if you're running 5psi, and you spike to 6-7), you'll be fine, but if the controller screws up, kiss your motor goodbye.

I do not really have the money for a EBC, do I need to run a boost controller at all? My turbo is a RHB52 and is nothing too big. What are most (low boost) turbo kits using to contol boost?
If I absolutely need an EBC I could get one but otherwise.....

if you're running 5psi or less, the wastegate can handle the boost to an extent.

the wastegate would be good for 5psi or less but anything else get an EBC. ESPECIALLY on a High COmpression engine where cylinder pressure and boost spikes could easily KILL a cylinder.

Would the Blitz street spec EBC be adequate? It is about 300 and I do not want to spend 500 for something I do not need.

Default scootr,

It says in your title that you have a turbo legacy. I have asked this many times and people just overlook this part. What is, where can i get one, what year, are there any websites for the turbo legacy. I am really interested in a factory turbo charged subaru and dont have enough money for a wrx, but have no idea what it looks like or how it performs. please PM me about this subject or just poste a website or something. thanks

he has a Legacy Turbo in his RS it sounds like.

IIRC, Legacy turbo's look like older Legacys, only they have a smallish hood scoop.

BTW scootr, I think the EBC you're looking at should be fine. For saftey, run low boost for a while, and watch for any spikes. Even if you see a tiny spike, return it.

sorry, that's all I know about 'em. From the one I saw, it was a VERY early legacy model, early 90s for sure.

Ok the Legacy Turbos were made 92-94 and came in a sedan and wagon style. The wagon only got a 4eat automatic while the sedan could also get a 5spd. THey have 160hp and 181lb/ft of torque. Check out http://www.xmission.com/~dac/ and also do a search in the Legacy forum and what not.
