Smile Has anyone Test Drive the Mazdaspeed 3?

Seems to be a very good package put together.
1-100km under 6s, and with a very stealthy look too

According to mazda.ca, it's $30,995, no options. Sounds like a very good deal if there are no mark-ups.

in a straight line... I think it would kick the wrx's butt (unless it was wet, or slippery)...

around corners, and as an overall package.. i'm not sure..... but it is a good $4000 - 5000 cheaper than a WRX (canadian)

Yeah, that's about right.

Mazda: since around 2002, making the cars that Subaru should have been making.

Missing the boxer and AWD of course.

But still, imagine if Subaru had hired Mazda's chassis engineers ... I always felt that the Protege5 was what the New Age Impreza should have been. Lighter, smaller, tighter chassis, all that...

in a magazine i read not too long ago, it had a wrx vs a ms3. i skimmed thru it but the ms3 won most of the tests. it had stuff like 0-100km, 1/4 mile, handling, stuff like that. i can't rmember the mag but on the front cover its a wrb wrx and a red ms3. i'll check the mag tommorow.

I'm pretty sure it was Motor Trend. I just read the issue too and I have it at home. Given all the results, the autocrossers they had doing the tests still said they would pick the WRX over the Mazdaspeed 3 for autox-ing.

Yeah but there is still around 15,000 of Mazda threes running around. Even more in Europe when I was there last month. My buddy has one (Not mazda speed) and while its a decent car and put together nicely, I rather come out of the mall and not have to guess which car is mine. Subies are far more, "rare" isn't the word I'm looking for but who wants a car that everyone else has?

the speed3's performance edge over the wrx in motor trend's test was judged by the testers to be mostly a product of rubber... the re92's were severely outmatched.

that said, the speed 3 is the top of the line... even if its priced comparably with the wrx. if you want more its speed6 or STi.

My buddy has the non-speed 3 and he loves it... he raves about the performance for a stocker. Interestingly, he noted that the chassis handles well b/c it was developed by volvo. No strut towers (or tower bars needed) as it is integrated into the fire wall for rigidity. I'm gonna go for a ride in the Speed3 next week!

My cousin has a 240 with an SR20DET, fully stripped interior and the Speed3 handed him his ass on a platter!

Haven't test drove one but saw one in red on Broadway today...
It looks pretty, high. Raised pretty high for a Mazda 3 sized car....
