Default 2007 Imprezas Hit The Ground - PHOTOS IN, MORE COMING SOON!

One of my local area Subaru dealers (there are 9 or 10 of them within 50 miles of my Western PA home) received their first 2007 Impreza this past Wednesday, Sept. 6th along with a truckload of Legacys and Foresters. The new arrival is a Satin White Pearl 2.5i Impreza Wagon with a 4EAT automatic transmission and, according to the Subaru inventory tracking system, is the first one delivered anywhere in Pennsylvania.

My contact at this particular dealership called to let me know the mothership had landed and I took a ride out after-hours yesterday evening to take a closer look.
Five items are immediately noticeable:

1) The base price has been lowered $300 from $18,295 to $17,995;

2) The interior appears to be the same as in the 2006 model (cars101.com has been reporting a new gray interior and radio face front, but I didn't see it in this model);

3) The beautifully integrated polished tailpipe exhaust bell that came standard on the 2006 Impreza 2.5i is gone , replaced by a simple cheap-looking, downscale angle cut steel tailpipe akin to that found on a base model Chevrolet Cobalt. The angle cut I am certain is to increase exhaust scavenging efficiency, but the overall look is a big disappointment when compared to the 2006. I guess stainless steel tailpipe covers will be back in vogue as a PIO or dealer installed option. Save the unfortunate tailpipe change (the $300 base price reduction had to come from somewhere), the muffler appears the same as the 2006, being a SUBARU MMFF4 Sakamoto;

4) The car remains shoed with Bridgestone Potenza RE92As (no big susrprise here);

5) The color Satin White Pearl is a softer, auradescent/iridescent white that does no harm to the Impreza's lines and will please those who favor this type of color. Probably a good choice (along with Garnet Red Pearl, Newport Blue Metallic & Urban Gray Metallic) to add interest to this gen Impreza's final year in production. OTOH, if you're the type who thinks the only right white is bright white, you will be sorely disappointed and kicking yourself in the backside for not having picked up that Alpine White 2006 model for which you long lusted.

Sorry, no photos available at the moment because I don't own a digital camera. I will however beg, borrow or steal one over the weekend and post some pics no later than this coming Monday, 9/11.

BTW.. Speaking of 9/11, please remember United Flight 93, its' crew & passengers and all those who died at the hands of evil in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania on this fateful day five years ago. Shanksville PA (where Flight 93 went down) is only a short drive from my home and, if you ever get a chance, I recommend a visit to the crash site to remember and reflect. The rural location is pure, honest, beautiful and filled with an outpouring of signs, symbols and prayers left behind by visitors from around the world that are moving beyond all words; I promise you it will be an experience you'll never forget.

That sucks...cost reduction by cheapening the looks is a bad move IMO.....especially when all the other manufacturers seem to *adding* chrome exhausts to all their models.

I'd rather they reduced costs by removing items people don't care (or care less) about, such as the thick padded carpeting in the trunk (new for 2006) - I mean really, do your groceries need the added comfort or something?

Going back to the cheap 90's style exhaust look does nothing for Subaru's new "premium" image, especially when the back-end of the car is what most people will see when they're stuck in traffic.

Difference of opinion, but the look of the exhaust doesn't matter to most buyers. The piece of carpet in the trunk has always been a joke, and improving it will likely improve road noise in the cabin. But I would think a fancy exhaust tip can't cost them more than a couple dollars? Another way to differentiate from the higher models.

My girlfriend has had her 2007 Impreza 5MT 2.5i wagon for a week now, and it's been a great car. I did notice the new, cheesy exhaust...it does indeed look cheesy. Other than that, it's basically an '06 in a new color (Urban Gray - very nice!). The interior and the radio look the same as before and I don't notice any other changes.

So much substance for $18k; it's an amazing value.

True, the exhaust look is purely cosmetic and probably wouldn't matter to hardcore performance enthusiasts, but most potential base model Impreza buyers probably aren't hardcore performance enthusiasts and will notice that the exhaust looks cheap. They might say they don't care, but it probably does subconciously affect their overall impression of the car.

IMO the carpet doesn't really make a difference in road noise, and most buyers won't really notice any difference unless they flip the carpet (since the cheap carpet looks just as nice on the surface).

Impreza WRX New WRX wagon soon!

I placed an order for a new WRX Wagon today!
I am having an autobroker evaluate the difference between an 07 vs an 06.
I found the pricing of the '07 at Edmunds.com. (not yet in carsdirect or kbb.com)
Since the 07 are newly delivered it is going to be intersting to see the differances between the two for delivery and price tradeoffs.

I have enjoyed reading all the previous posts on this site so I am offing this post to help others

Pricing was announced weeks ago: Impreza 2.5i's drop $300, WRX (all) stay exactly the same, and STI's gain $500. You get the stereo upgrades (aux-input, sirius capability, MP3/WMA playback) essentially for fee. D&D is the same at $625.

Well after begging to borrow a camera didn't work, I ended up buying a new digital camera to get the job done. After waiting a couple days for FedEx to deliver the goods from Spokane WA late on Monday 9/11 (many thanks for the fast service ONECALL.com), I headed off to my local Subaru dealer the very next rain soaked day to try out the new camera and collect some snapshots to post as promised.

The rather dark, heavily overcast, shower filled day made it a challenge to take photographs that clearly show the dramatic difference between Satin White and recently departed Alpine White, but I believe the Satin Iridescence/Opalescence is evident in the detail photos.

Now without further delay and as promised, here's a sampling of pics from a digital camera n00b.

BTW, please feel free to post a few nice, descriptive photos of that 2007 Impreza that shows up on your local dealer's lot or, even better, at home in your driveway! It would be a great help as I'd eventually like to see all the new 2007 Impreza colors (Garnet Red, Newport Blue, Satin White, Urban Gray as well as now perennial favorites Crystal Gray, Obsidian Black & WRC Blue) represented and readily available for viewing in this thread as a resource to the entire NASIOC community. This photo request includes both body styles (sedan & wagon) and all models (2.5i thru STI Limited). TIA.

J-Chow:
You've got my attention, as I longed wished that Subaru of America (SOA) would offer a similar model here in the United States. To SOA's credit they have been and will continue to offer a nicely optioned Outback Sport SE (OBS/SE) in model year 2007, albeit without sunroof or heated seats AFIK, but I just can't dig it because faux cladding two-tone paint jobs and raised Impreza suspensions (which equates to a higher center of gravity) aren't my thing.

The aforementioned in mind, anybody know how I go about purchasing, exporting and registering a Canadian spec '07 Impreza SE Wagon in the United States??? The Province of Ontario is closest to my home here in the Lower 48.

i wanted the 07 2.5i SE interior. i hate how subaru puts the new additions of interior (cd audio, leather steering, new seats and PAINTED SIDE MIRRORS) on 07 model now. omg...why couldn't they just put it on the 06? ugh. i hate it.

I feel for ya.
I mean . . . I paid nearly as much as the 07 2.5i SE (Less $200), and I didn't get those extra accessories and equipment on my 06'.

sigh..
and the new 07 is cheaper too. not just couple of dollars cheaper. $300 cheaper! if i were to change the interior to match up the 07 2.5i SE, i would probably be spending more to just match the interior than MSRP at the dealership. i love subaru, but hate how they do that. i am so madd.

Although the exhaust system change is best seen in person to fully appreciate the absolute plainness of the tailpipe on the the 2007 2.5i Impreza as compared to the beautifully creative and artful 2006 Impreza 2.5i tailpipe/polished exhaust bell combination, the following photos are satisfactory to show the change from a rear-view perspective. Ideally, the simple and stylish elegance of the 2006 solution is best seen in side and oblique profiles.

Since I can't imagine any performance engineering reason for the change, I'll have to conclude that the change was approved solely for cost cutting and/or marketing reasons. Whatever the case, attention to small details like badging, bulges, creases, curves and chrome are important to any vehicle manufacturer and especially important to Subaru with its history of including unique styling features in its vehicle designs: features which help differentiate the Subaru brand from the rest of the pack.

With no malice intended towards FHI Subaru, SOA or anyone invloved in implementing this new configuration, I believe the change to be penny-wise and pound-foolish.

PHOTO #1 shows the new tailpipe on a 2007 Impreza 2.5i Wagon.

PHOTO #2 shows the tailpipe/exhaust bell outlet system on a 2006 Impereza 2.5i Wagon.
When seen up close, one immediately notices a marvelous inside taper and precision welding.

PHOTO #3 shows another similar view of the 2007 tailpipe;
it also clearly shows the iridescent/opalescent sheen of the new for '07 color Satin White Pearl.

I think the WRX ground clearance is 6.1" and that of the OBS is 6.3". Not much difference, I presume ?

The difference is more in the sloppiness of the handling (softer suspension in the non-WRX Imprezas), the slow and sloppy steering (WRX ratio is a quick 2.7, while other Imprezas are I believe 3.0 or 3.2) of the lesser Imprezas, Larger 4 piston brakes in the front and 2 piston brakes in the rear of the WRX (2 piston brakes in Front and single piston in rear for less imprezas), Larger 17" wheels to clear the larger brakes in the WRX.

In the EAT version, the difference is more stark. The WRX AWD system (VTD) has a true Planetary gear Center differential, while the non-WRX 4EATs do not have a center differential. The Center Diff allows the WRX EAT to split torque 45%front/55%rear, for a more sharper handling feel. That coupled with the stiffer suspension, stronger brakes, tires with larger contact patch, quicker and heavier steering etc is a worthy upgrade over the lesser Imprezas.
