Unhappy Good body shop? Car got backed into

Well, my brand new 3 month old car got backed into thismorning . Luckily it was my dad so he already called the insurance company and everything. He hit my car where the rear door and fender meet, nice big dent and the fender is pushed over the wheel with very little clearence so I cant drive it . Any way what body shop would you guys recomend?

I am kind of hesitant to take it into Midtown, when I bought the car from you guys there was a small ding on the door that was fixed by them I think (I dropped it off at conti), when I got the car back you could see weird looking swirl like marks all over the door where they tried to buff it out, was a pretty poor job, they weren’t swirl marks but linear marks in the clear coat or something. They also fixed a chip in the paint on the roof, but instead of actually buffing it out or anything, I have a big glob of touchup paint on my roof, very disappointing.

Midtown did a decent job on my hood when I had my subie. (had to paint the B4 hood) and didnt do toooo bad on the plate block out up front on the Audi, however the blockout is peeling now. not sure if its a them thing and not prepping it right or a me thing and using too agressive a cleaner on it when it was on.

Well Midtown is on my insurance companies approved list and they are supposed to be one of the best so what the hell I'll just take it to them and look it over realy good before I get it back.

Thanks guys.

Talk to Randy or Mark, see if they can fix that swirl a bit better for you to. They do really good work so I'm not sure what happened with that dint. They have made deep scratchs in plastic disapear without repainting the whole bumper.

My wifes tahoe was backed into twice, The first time we took it to Spruce park. I heard how good they were and frankly I was not impressed, not only that but when they buffed the hood somebodys zipper scratched the crap out of the front passenger fender, They took pictures off it when I returned to show it to them and said they would fix it. The second time the Tahoe got side swiped in a parking lot so again I took it to Spruce park thinking they would fix the fender while they had it. He gave me a quote and refused to fix the fender scratches saying they were prior damage and he had no pictures or even remembered taking any (was only 3 months later). So in my opinion Spruce park sucks. On a good note I did take it to Able body right down the street and they did an awsome job. The guys name was Rob and he had it in an out in less than a week and even offered to come pick it up/drop it off. I would highly recommend them.

Too late, already called the insurance company and told them I was going to use Midtown. Thanks for the info though maybe I will give them a try next time I get hit .

The crappiest part is I cant drive it and I think Midtown said it would take like 10 days just to get the parts in, so I am guessing I wont be able to drive my car again for 3 weeks. POS rental here I come.

Rob is a bad ass. Able has good people. I used to work at Total Truck which shares ownership with Able. They are all good folks.

You got body shops in Anchorage that are most likely are guarenteed to get paid over 95% of the jobs by insurance companies. So volume of cars coming in is more so important than the quality of work being done.

I can attest the quality of midtown auto. Continental is a major client. Wifes vehicle was taken there 3 times due to fender benders and repairs were sub par. I had to re- bolt doors and realigned it for it to shut down correctly. Test was done at a Laser wash. With my sedan the 2 year old repair is now beginning to rust.

These shops don't care to take time in Quality. They are going to get paid now matter what. Is there room for competition? Very minimal.
I'm going to try Spruce since besides the post made here, I've been hearing great reviews. We'll see...

Just my .02 cents on Midtown Auto.

I think Midtown has a lifetime warranty but I am not sure what it covers, you may want to check with them, if I start to see rust in 2 years I will be inferiated.

I hope all I have is body damage, I know the rear door doesnt shut correctly now, and I hope nothing happend to the rear strut. Plus I have to have it towed all the way from ER.

I work w/ bodyshops everyday, Able, Stepp Brothers, Lithia, Alcan all guarentee their work for the lifetime that you own the car. Chaz also does pretty good work. I've had work done on mine at both Able and Alcan.

DO NOT GO TO SPRUCE PARK!!! they only guarentee their work for 1 year.

I just called Midtown and they said they garentee any work they do for as long as you own the vehicle also, and it covers anything (rust, paint peeling, etc.) So AKSubie and mvm42699, you should take it back to them and hopefuly they will stand up to thier garentee.

Crap! My vehicle is already scheduled to go through with Insurance work already processed. Hope the job is more than decent like showroom quality.

Alaskan_awd

Thanks. I'll call them up and point out the rust spots to them.

If you don't want to go to Midtown, than I recommend Pauls Auto Body. Seen them do alot of work on my friends Integra and his Dads Z06 and such.

Colsolidated auto body was bought out by Able last month. I now reccomend Able body shop downtown. They do all of our work and every car that comes back from them is perfect. Everyone there is really friendly and there shop will only get better with the new upgrades from the new owner, Able.
