Question Help! Q: about oil filter type???

I am about to change my oil, but I have 2 important questions.
1) The filter I got from NAPA auto #1365 is alot smaller than the one from Subaru. It fits, but it is like half the size. Is this wrong?
2) Is there 4 or 5 quarts of oil in the 2000 2.5 RS? The owners manual says it takes 4, but I see the WRX takes 5. Just want to make sure.

Always use what the manual states when it comes to capacity. You own a RS, not a WRX.

Question

I'm driving back to FL today. I hope that the oil filter is right. I wish somebody would tell me about #1?

well napa should be correct. if i'm correct all oil filters vary in sizes and as long as it fits and does the job you should not worry. my car takes 4 quarts--i have the obs 2.2 model--but i always buy 5 just to make sure. you have to fill up your engine with 4 quarts at first, let it run at idle for awhile, then check your oil level. i always drive the car somewhere and check it about 15 after i get home just to be sure.

I called my dad (NAPA store owner) yesterday for the correct oil filter for a wrx. He said the older imprezas use the 1365. He also called the NAPA filter rep and asked about the yet unlisted 02 models and he said its the same. Going to pick up a 1365 this afternoon for mine. Just wish I still lived in VA then all my NAPA parts would be free!

My question for you, shogunate, is did that filter come with a crush ring for the drain plug?

I had the same concern. I ran a filter like that for almost 3,000 with no problems. Since then I've ordered half a dozen OEM filters from SubaruParts.com. I just feel better using those.
You should be ok for your road trip.

Look at the napa balkamp catalog for the crush washer... its identical to the oem washer... i'm at my gf's house right now and dont have the number on the top of my head... but i will let you know when i get home later tonight...
as for the filter the 2002 wrx uses the 1334 oil filter i used the oem number and interged it.. dont use the the 1365 for your 02 wrx... the 1365 filter is for the 2000 2.2

let me know if you have any questions
