Default Help my GF buy her Honda Fit

I have one question regarding that... If we live in county A and we go buy in county B, what will the sales tax be calculated at? Will it be calculated for the county she buys the car in (County B). Or will it be calculated for County A (home county)?

Or does the above only apply to the liscense and registration fees?

Help my GF and in the process help me to get her through this stressful event. Thanks.

I thought tax was by state, not by county.

County A. At least in CO that's the case. For example, peeps that live in Jefferson co pay 4.2% sales tax, Boulderites pay 8.something% , however Boulder has a much better selection of cars with more options. A lot of folks from the mountains would go down to town to buy a car, but only get taxed at 'home' county rate. Hope this helps.

Uhhhh, that's false. Otherwise everyone would go to Delaware to buy a car. I bought a car in NJ while living in Philly and had to pay 7% sales tax.

Here in WI, it's residence county...otherwise people would drive away from the Miller Park Tax counties to buy their cars.

FALSE

You pay sales tax wherever you REGISTER the car. I sell Subaru's right next to the Canadian border, I do this all the time. My Canadian customers pay taxes there.

Hmmm... First hand experience. IIRC, when I bought my wrx in Ventura County, he said they charge me the sales tax for the county I would be registering my vehicle in. I dunno , my memory sucks. And thus the reason why I come to the OT. Thanks.

Well, the way it works here in the states is that you pay the sales tax on where ever you are from. So, if you buy the car in New jersey, but you're from NY, you pay NY sales tax.

I went through this when I bought my Fit, they tax you based on your zip code. Find an address in the lowest tax zipcode and you might save a little money. Has she found one for sale? www.fitfreak.net is filled with many stupid people and some useful information.

Well, she has not found one yet. She is currently ironing out the insurance research. She is aiming for the Fit Sport. I am thinking we can have it for 15500 AT. What do you think? Let me now click on that linky. How much did you pay for yours again? Btw, thanks for dropping in.

I almost bought a 5spd Fit Sport. Had it ordered. The dealer gave me the creeps. All other local dealers sucked ass. We bounced.

I see. The Fit seems to give a lot for the money. It has many good qualities except the stock power is weak. But understandable for the category its in.

What kind of Mazda Fastar did you get?

It's where you register the car. I registered my A3 in San Diego, at my parents' house, to get the 7.75% sales tax, and I live in Santa Clara County at the time, 8.25%. 0.5% turned out to be $150. Shrug.

in California, you can't bring a car into the state and have it registered if it has less than 7,000 miles (iirc). I don't know if it applies to Canadian cars though =/.

I got the alarm upgrade, extended warrenty, and gap insurance so it was around 17-18 when all was said and done. Just call every dealer within 100 miles of you when youre ready, its what I had to do. All the local dealers said there were no Fit Sports available in northern CA, but I found around 10 of all different colors, then 2 of the silver which I wanted. Roseville had a mark up of 5 grand, Sam Linder in Salinas was only 500.

I like the Fit Sport. It's an excellent little car. Definitely a lot of car for the money.

In georgia taxes are calculated based in the county you live.
