Default 5 Pass B9 Questions

Okay, I admit, I snuck in here.
I'm on the Baja forum, because I have a baja.
However, my wife is taller than I am, and finds the baja a little cramped on 12 hour trips to the inlaws.
So, I have a few questions, after looking at one today on the lot.
I like the 4 powerports, that's a good thing, because the diabetic dog has a plug in cooler to keep the insulin cold. But the wife has a plug in DVD player to keep her occupied. So far so good.
I'm used to the AWD system, as I have had my Baja 3 years, with the
50/50 power tranfer (5sp). Subies rule on snow and ice, if you haven't tried yours out yet!
I have had XM in 2 cars since it came out (additional hardware added to both vehicles, as it wasn't standard on them).
Do I have to get the chrome package deal, to get XM, or can I buy the equipment at a later date and have it added (since it's prewired standard)?
As far as the chrome rims, I don't want those, just the XM radio.
Is there a way to get the radio without the rims and grille?
I'm going to do the fleet buying kind of.
I have an uncle in the business (another brand), who's GM over 3 dealerships.
He knows the lingo, and helped me on the Baja.
I saved $7,000 on it, with the leather package, etc.
I'm going to try and get him to get me the wholesale price, which I hope is in the 20's for a 5ps limited.
Really my only concern is the radio! Life's really complicated isn't it? LOL
I get 20 mpg in the city now with the baja and the AC on, so I'm used to that.
And I've read the ride is great in the B9, just as it is in the Baja.
In a week, maybe I will know if I can join this forum or not!
I am going to try for an 06 because of the 0% financing.
I did 2.9 on my Baja, and i'm to the point where my car is worth $5000 than I owe, which is a good thing.
Great discussions btw, very informative for someone like me, interested in this model.

The XM package is available alone for $398 MSRP.

The AWD system is a bit different in the B9 than the Baja. It uses a more sophisticated AWD that is more rear wheel biased at 45/55. You can read more about it here:

Not only that, the monitor isn't ready for it, the radio isn't ready for it, and the dash controls are not ready for it. If you want XM you'll really need an 07.

I missed the 06 reference in his post. I guess the special edition mention threw me off course

Well I have some sad news.
As much as my wife and I would like one, the 07 is out of our range.
I'm with the gov't, as a Fleet Manager over 95 vehicles, and a purchasing agent as well.
Now, I am trying to get a higher position, and that could happen in the next month or so, but the Subie will have to wait.
Strap yourselves in to your chair, because what I'm about to say might make some of you pass out.
I'm trading my "soft market" Baja, for a Saturn Vue.
I have an uncle in the Saturn business (GM over 3 dealerships), and I would be stupid to pass this deal up.
$60 more a month, and $30 more a month on insurance, for a new Vue with a Honda engine? I couldn't pass that up, with XM, heated seats, and Onstar too.
So, I'm going to be leaving the Subie world only for awhile....
BTW, I'm so pissed at Subaru for NOT marketing the Baja I can't see straight.
That non-marketing plan caused my car to be "unwanted" by almost every dealer and auto auction in the US. At least for what I wanted ($11,500).
I ended up getting $10,000 for a Baja loaded, with leather, etc, and only
37,800 miles.
Since he's my uncle, I know he's not screwing me, he wanted to sell it for
$11,500 too.
Oh well, I hope the Tribeca holds it's value.
I still want one, but it's going to be a few years now.

I went to the dealer today to see about getting out of my B9, its been hit in the rear ..repaired of course..but they only offered me 20k for it, its a 5pass limited with nav and tow package and has 7k miles on it. kelly blue book puts it at 26k on a trade value in perfect condtion..thats 10g less than sticker for it.

Damn, that sucks. Did the insurance company reimburse you for diminished value?
