Thumbs up DSM turbos for a Scooby

Has anyone gone to any of the DSM site for setting up aftermarket turbo setups.
DSM Performance has great deal on T3/T4 style ball bearing turbo with internal wastegate. The TURBO is listed at $999 but you can take off $199 for the DSM intake pipe that come with it. They port and polish the turbine housing and enlargen the wastegate port to 40mm with a new plate. Check it out here.
Here is the flow chart on it. It's a great street/autocross turbo with of flow of 48 lb/min@680 CFM

that's great, but DSMs are high boost 2.0l 4cyls. It has different boosting chars than our RS does. Would that thing be worth it's cost at low boost? I doubt it, we're better off getting a custom TC because we don't really need to run anything higer than 7-10psi.

I was told that it would be fine for 7-10psi. That is not a reall high boost turbo cause it's more for the street/auto-x. It's got lots of mid range.

hmm... true, but you're average DSM is pushing what, 15-17psi? So it's power point has to be upwards of 10psi. It'd prolly be OK when we're pulling full throttle, but I rarely hit full boost unless I nail the throttle. My turbo gives me pleanty of pull at 2psi, which under the same conditions would be around 7-10 on a DSM. We want a turbo that is strong from 1psi up to around 10. If it's ok at 7-10, it might be utter crap at 1-3 making it a total ripoff.

We're better off getting a turbo with a custom A/R tuned for our application.

Than who makes a T3/T4 with internal wastegate for our cars. I just want the turbo and custom my own kit.

anyone who sells turbo's can build it. I HIGHLY recommend getting an external wastegate! Umm... check out ISR Performance, they might have 'em.

doesn't mitsubishi supply the turbos for the WRX, both past and present?

i am going to have to go with joel on this one, we have large, high compression engines that can't take alot of boost, unlike the DSM engines. for auto-x and rally, its more important to have low-end torque than top-end power, so the turbo should be sized appropriatly. IIRC, SCC had a nice chart a couple of months ago illustrating different size turbos, A/R ratios, spool time, and max power.

Agreed here with Joel and Jeff. The mits turbo will give you a HUGE wallop up top, but your gonna have to do somework to handle the boost it will produce when coupled to our big engines...
Jeff, IIRC the turbos in the WRX are in fact Mitsubishi's.
