Have a Nice Day? I have a knock/clacking noise...

So, my car has developed this clacking/knocking noise from the passenger side of the engine. It seems to come on at about 1/4 throttle, between 3 and 5lbs of boost, and around oh... 3-4 grand on the tack. After those perimeters are met the clack/knock goes away and it isn't there prior to meeting those perimeters. Strange, but anywhoooooooo...

I've got a Cobb up-pipe and turbo-back exhaust and a PDX costume tune.

Any of you guys have a guess as what it could be? I really have to get this thing to the shop to have it looked at. I really want a '05 with a bum motor...

Thanks,
~Turk

turbo? something with the timing belt area?

some bolts that came loose somewhere...have you checked for the obvious with your hands, on a cool engine?

that sounds pretty weird...

most internal engine knocks are there regardless of RPM or boost and don't go away... Anything loose under your hood?

If you want to have it checked out an Conti, just give me a call tomorrow on my direct like 261-0602. If I'm away from my desk, leave a message and I'll call you back. I'm not in until 9am and have some training to do tomorrow morning.

Check heat shields? Mine rattle in time with the engine. Tho every heatshield has a huge dent in it.

sounds like ignition breakdown, check the plugs. maybe you smoked a coil? look for carbon tracking, split plug boot, burned coil terminal (plug side), etc.

man sounds like knock to me. or maybe a blown head gasket. sometimes the blow by from the head gasket can make the same noises and go away when the pressure becomes equalized. if you take your plugs out see if you can check to see if there is any aluminum on the spark plug tips. it will look gray in color and shine when a light is put on it. if there is aluminum on the plug tips try to look inside of the cylinder to see if you can see shiny spots on the top of the piston. this may be hard since you guys ahve horiztonally opposed cylinders, but aluminum is a sure tell sign of detonation. if it is detonating, you may want to change plugs or put more fuel into the mix to stop the detonation. believe me, i have gone through the trials and tribulations of detonation. no good.

Great...

Well, between work, a 3 month old baby, and everything else I've got going on I've got no time to work on my car.

Can you guys at Conti take care of this kind of thing?
