Default WTB: Cheap GSM phone (prefer Cingular or unlocked)

I'm looking for a stop-gap GSM phone to temporarily replace the wife's Cingular phone that looks like it is biting the dust. It would be good to have a spare phone around anyway and this would give us time to pick out something she really likes in the next month or two.

If you have something, post it up or PM me! Very much prefer local to Chicagoland.

Thanks,
Nick

Im probably right around the corner from you (I live in streamwood too) and have an Ericsson R380 World phone that is unlocked GSM. Make me an offer on it, drive like 5 minutes or less and pick it up? Ive got everything that came with it, including the very nice horizontal leather folio sleeve and extra stylii for the touch screen when you flip the keypad open. I was trying to sell it ages ago with no takers. Heres the link..

Disregard my asking prices and just make me an offer within your pricerange.

go to the cingular store and buy the cheapest pay as you go phone... mine was like $20 or something (you'll have to set up a new # and all that jazz, but that will go away as soon as you switch the sim card)... anyways there is no commitment, so you just trash the new sim card and insert your wife's old sim card and you have a new phone (w/ warranty too!)

ps
i did this a few weeks ago so that i wouldn't keep busting up my sony erickson phone @ work.

I fully agree with buying a prepaid, I tell customers with messed up phones to do that all the time. Just pop the sim in. If you go somewhere like sams you don't even have to activate them. Just buy and sim swap, easy sleazy.

I thought pay as you go phones were locked so that you couldn't use parent company sims in them. Otherwise nobody would "pay" for a new phone.

I know that nextel sims don't work in boost phones, unless they are unlocked, but boost sims work in nextel phones.

Thanks,
