Default Tribeca vs 4runner

So what do you guys feel between the 2. My parents are looking at traiding in the out of warranty 04 VW Tourag in for either a 07 tribeca or a 07 4runner. What do you guys think of the differances, I know that it would be better if they moved into the subaru family, but toyota makes good cars as well. My mom likes the tridional suv look of the 4runner better and likes the confort better on the tribeca. All comments welcome, but please don't flame me.

that b9 runs circles around that 4runner in handling, it also has awd... 4runner you gotta get the 4wd, the 4runner will have more room than the b9... if she likes power 4runner, but if she likes comfort id push the b9, because it truly is unique and amazing vehicle.. and of course the b9 is safe as hell, idk too much about the crash test ratings of the 4runner

The 4runner has just a little less HP than the tribeca. So I think that they would be about the same (we are comparing the h6 to the v6 here). My dad just said that he thinks that the tribeca would be a little more sensable of a purchase, not to say more stylish . He is a bit torn, and it is going to be his car as well. I told him, hey you are getting what you want, a suv and a prosche in one :P. He is an old porche guy, he had a couple in the 70's when he met my mom and loves the H engines.

Tribeca has more HP but 4Runner has quite a bit more torque. What do your parents value? The 4Runner would be more for towing and serious offroading. Tribeca will be more comfortable, safer, less likely to roll over, more distinctive, more of a driver's car, and cost a few grand less comparably equipped.

Really- two different classes of vehicle. The Tribeca compares more with the Highlander (and has better styling, handling, and a much better 4WD system).

The 4Runner only makes sense if he's got more serious off-road needs. Plus- By the time you equip the 4Runner with options to match a 'beca limited, you're forced into the V8 4Runner Ltd, which costs ~$7K more (depending on the deal) and you'll be getting a lot less mpg.

Plus- moving from a Touareg, the interior of the 4Runner is such a huge step down, that I can't see anyone moving in that direction. I've looked at the Touareg and driven them extensively. A fabulous looking and handling and capable vehicle, but the '04's were plagued with problems. Clearly, they are probably sick of all the issues that the Touareg had, and are running to something that they feel is more reliable (which would be about any vehicle). In which case- they should go for the '07 Beca, which has had a few changes (like the front end suspension) which fixed the clunking/reliability issues of the '06's.

If they are looking for a SUV that has great handling and road feel, as well as off road ability- then the Tribeca will fit the bill, but they may need to change the tires (which I'm considering). The other vehicle to consider is the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

They really never go offroading. So I from what I feel from talking to my dad, he is leaning toward the tribeca. The likes the bigger entry on the 4runner, but I am not sure if that is actually ture or not. He does a little hauling every once in a while, but no towing and no offroading. His touareg actually has been retevally flawless, only expensive. No roater resurficing possible because they are too thin, so he went in for a break job and ended up paying 3k for new roters. Yes, he goes to the dealier, but he is that way. I think that he is really liking the price tag on the tribeca as well. And they have almost never liked the jeeps, but they did look at at, but ruled it out because it was just way to uncofrortable for them. My dad also has back problems so he needs the seet confortable and he did like the seats in the tribeca a lot.

Wow- $3K for a brake job on the Touareg? According to the forums I checked out, it was 'only' $800 to $1000. (and that's every 20-30Kmi). Ridiculous. I still lust for the Touareg- but I don't wanna' own one.
