Default Stop the attack on Motorsports in the Valley

Taken from AKMS:

Quote:
Your favorite pastime is under attack from a proposed change to Matanuska-Susitna Borough ordinances, which will change Race Tracks from a Core Area conditional use, to a borough wide conditional use. This does not just apply to normal tracks (dirt or asphalt) but ALL forms of racing, whether they take place on land, ice, or snow and involve cars, motorcycles, ATVs, or snow machines.

Please take the time to read the draft ordinance, and existing ordinance MSB 17.60 Conditional Uses and MSB 17.63 Race Track Regulations. We must all get involved in this if we want our sport to survive. There is a petition available for you to sign. Please add your name to the list of Motorsports supporters.

Written comments on the draft ordinance should be received in the borough planning office no later than 5:00 p.m. Thursday, November 9, 2006.
Their address is:
Matanuska-Susitna Borough Department of Planning and Land Use
350 E. Dahlia
Palmer, AK 99645
By email to planning@matsugov.us or by Fax to (907) 745-9876. Please clearly indicate you are responding to draft ordinance to MSB 17.60 and 17.63.

If you have further questions on this item please contact Eileen Probasco at 746-7431, or via e-mail at eprobasco@matsugov.us.

Time is short. We need your help. Thank you.

In short, it measn anything of motorsports activities, whether drag racing, oval racing, road course racing, Auto-x, Rally-x, road rally, snow machine racing, ice racing, etc.. must pass a review board, engineering board, conditional use permti application process and... well basically, no more motorsports in the valley.

Does this apply to activities that occur on base, such as autocross?

I do not see how this would be a smart idea anyways. By pretty much having the events shut down. Such as the drag strip, this would cause street racing to increase. Why would they want to increase the amount of danger? The drag strip is built to legally have people race so it's not done on public roads where people can get hurt. Makes no logical sense, all the races professional establish help reduce the numbers.

yea, only place that I race is on the track. Figure if anyone really wants to race they can meet me there ^_^ but if it gets shut down, I might be forced to go off a cliff or something

it doesnt say that it will eliminate racing in the valley, just that it must pass a review board. Which i'm sure any legal drag racing at the stip will do, simply because it brings money into the city. I doubt this is as big a deal as you are making it out to be.

Why would they make every event at the raceway pass some board meeting for approval? Sounds like a load of BS to me...

And the only racing I do in the valley is at the Alaska park drag for uh... duh... drag and Autocross. And I love autocross out there so if this is a big deal were do I sign to prevent this?
