Question pipe bending

Is there a local muffler/whatever shop that will do custom mandrel pipe bending, or at least someone who sells pre-bent pipes? I'm thinking of building my own cold-air intake, something like the Ganzflow. Everyone that makes intakes has told me it'll be a while before they have something for the '02 RS

Try Shoreline Muffler. I don't know the phone number but, it is right next door to Smart Service.

Shoreline doesn't have a mandrel pipe bender. But they are supposed to be good.

I've been waiting 3 weeks for them to call back with my price quote.

Are Mandrell bent pipes THAT crucial for intakes? Looks great, sure, but I believe that a skillfully done Compression Bend is just as effective.

I know I'm way far from your area but I did this on MY01 RS. Try your local speed shop. All muffler shops I called could only bend pipes with the indentation. I got with a friend at a performance shop (I think they specialized in Honda). He had some precut, prebent pipes of different angels and lengths for different intake applications. I just looked at what he had, put two together with some simple fittings, and cut to length. Now I have a great DIY cold air intake (sorry, no pics yet). It only cost me about $40.00, and then a buck or two for the O clamps. I really wanted a one-piece pipe, but with the difficulty in finding the pipe and the shop to bend it, I just went for two. Take the picture around with you and show them what you are trying to make. Worked for me.

Try the Muffler King in Totem Lake. They've got a pipe bender. Not sure if it's a mandrel, but when I watched him do stuff I didn't notice any crimps.

Your other option is just simple PVC piping. You're not talking about exhaust piping, so it doesn't have to withstand anything more than the heat from the block.

PVC is bad for intakes because of the gases it releases when it's warm. It's easier but do you want to risk a burned piston?

How about ABS? You know... the black stuff. I noticed it smells nice when warm too.

Stan's Headers in Auburn sells full mandrel U-bends in just about any diameter you need. That's what I use to build all my exhaust systems.
