Default "Hi, my name is Resbum and I'm a moron."

The crowd replies, "Hi Resbum".

"I have been moron free for 11 years and two months. Today I fell off the wagon. Here's what happened."

I'm driving along, minding my own business, when a cop shows up out of nowhere behind me with his lights on. I glance down and think, "S***! 43 in a 35 zone. This is going to hurt." Yes, I had to look. I didn't even know I was speeding. As I said, "I'm a moron."

So I pull over, and as the officer is getting out of his car I'm running through all the normal excuses that go through your head. None of them seemed appropriate. He had me dead-to-rights. Busted!!!

He gets to my window and I look up and lamely say, "Hi." And this is what he said. I quote exactly:

"If you are going to speed, please don't do it right in front of the Lakewood Police Department Traffic Division Building. Thank you, have a nice day."

And he turns around and leaves. I kid you not, he said "please" and "Thank you".

I sat there watching him walk away in my rearview for about ten seconds dumbfounded. Then came to my senses and got the hell out of there.

"My Name is Resbum and I'm a moron. Although I've been moron free for many years, today I faltered. It just proves that it will always be there and I will be a recovering moron the rest of my life. Thank you for reading my story."

Moral of the story, if you are gonna speed, do it infront of the Department Traffic Division Building, it's the last place they'll think of catching you.
Nice one! Proof that not talking back or acting like a dick towards cops does pay off...sometimes.

Thanks. I think.

I guess you could compare it to a deer walking into a hunting camp at 5:30AM on opening day. The thrill of the hunt, the adrenaline, staulking your prey, the blood lust for a kill just isn't there. And the hunters just let it wander away.

Edit: 'Falling off the wagon' is a term for alcoholics that go back to drinking.

Nope, didn't see you. Sorry, I was kinda pre-occupied. If you were over by I-5 and 512, yep, that was me.

You must have gone by at the right minute because that was all the longer the whole encounter took. When I stopped, I left my car running on the turbo timer. The default setting is 50 seconds. I figured it would take him that long to radio in, get his stuff together and get out of his car.

It was while I was watching him walk away in my rearview when the car shut off. I said one word, he said two sentences, done, end of conversation.

No interpersonal contact, but yesterday I was crusing down I-405 at about 80mph (the usual speed for 4:30 AM) and I see this car coming up behind me in the carpool lane. He never paced me, he just kept getting closer. As he passes me, I notice that it is a WSP, and he is doing about 90mph, no emergency lights flashing, just crusing at 90mph. I watch him pull away from me, he changes lanes and makes an exit a few miles down the road. That exit leads to the WSP office in the area, so I'm assuming he was ending his shift and was in a hurry to get home.

Good stuff. I have been pulled over 3 times since i started driving, only got a ticket for one of them. Usually if you are polite, keep both hands on the wheel, and own up to what you did, you can sneak out with a warning.

Cops have finely tuned bull**** detectors, if you try to lie to one, especially an experianced one, they will pick up on it and show no mercy. Cops are human, they do a tough, thankless job (unless it's YOU with the crackhead in your basement), it's hard for them to stay "nice" at times.

Glad you met a cool one, who decided that a few minutes of pants crapping was all the situation needed.
