Default jdm ej25t swap

i just bought an jdm 06 legacy gt engine to swap into my 02 wrx from gruppe-s. from what they have told me the swap is straight up and my stock harness and ecu can be used and all i'll need is the reflash. is this true? from what i've read in the forums everyone just argues back and forth. should i try to run the legacy gt ecu? or would a sti's work?

yesh
its not that straight forward

you will have to swap your wrx manafold on
avcs won't work w/ your ecu
its not much of an upgrade if any

i already know that i have to swap the manifold over with the throttle body to get around the fly by wire. I'm in the process of buying a ver.7 spec C ecu, will this help any. I don't see how this isn't much of an upgrade.

Or.... the Forester STi, which is far more likely. If so, then that would be a huge upgrade. But any EJ25T will be an upgrade over the US EJ20

You should really try and use the ECU from the engine that you got... but at the very least, it must be an ECU that supports all the features of the engine, like AVCS. As long as it can do that, then a re-flash should fix it.

i plan on running a ver.7 C spec ecu anyways. im just curious about it. can't i just leave the avcs unplugged? I just looked up to make sure and the new legacy's are 2.5t. http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/legacy_gt.asp

No, you can't leave the AVCS unplugged, the cam timing would be all f'd up. You'd have to put on heads that didn't have AVCS. The JDM Spec C ECU should be able to handle AVCS on a JDM engine (which is dealt with totally differently then it is on the USDM engines)

And I think that link is to the USDM Spec B... the JDM one is a 2.0 liter if I remember correctly.

edit: yep, that's the USDM spec B... this is the JDM spec B: http://translate.google.com/translat...&hl=en&ie=UTF8

The ONLY 2.5 turbo in Japan is the Forrester STi.

the FXT in japan is a 2.0T as well.

edit: just realized that for some reason it only will link to the main subaru page....

Well, go to the third option down on the list on the left side, it will bring up a model list. Then click on the forester, then on any one of the models, and it will bring you to a spec page. On it, it list the engines as:
Quote:
2.0XS / 2.0X / 2.0XT / CROSS SPORTS 2.0T / CROSS SPORTS 2.0i

Well.... make sure it's actually a 2.5 liter...

if you actually have the engine, look at the block, there will be a tag that says either EJ20 or EJ25. Obviously you know which is which.

it looks like this:
