DETROIT — One of Cadillac's high-profile SEMA vehicles will be a special edition of the 2007 SRX with a cabin that has been redesigned by Dana Buchman, an upscale women's fashion designer.

The '07 SRX already benefits from an all-new cockpit for the new model year, but Cadillac's mandate to Buchman, a former Liz Claiborne designer who now markets her namesake label, was to take the cabin a step further.

"The idea was to take an SRX and hand it over to one of the premier American designers in our effort to give the SRX a renewed focus on marketing to women and families," said Cadillac spokesman Kevin Smith.

Buchman is not only known for her design portfolio, but for her book, Special Education, about her daughter's battle with dyslexia.

The base '07 SRX is powered by a 255-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 with a five-speed automatic transmission. The uplevel model has a 320-hp 4.6-liter V8 with a new six-speed automatic transmission.

No details yet on what Buchman's vision for the SRX will be. At the same time, Smith said Cadillac will also display a DUB Edition 2007 Escalade EXT at SEMA.

What this means to you: Cadillac is totally changing gears with the once-macho SRX and taking aim at the market niche now occupied by the Lexus RX350.

Good to see GM spending their money and efforts on such worthwhile projects.

Usually all it costs GM is a car. My friend has built a few SEMA cars for manufacturers and he gets the car for free but pays for all the mods. Well sponsors pay for the mods, but you get the idea.

All in all I would say those seats look very comfy, but yeah, the SRX was dead when it hit the floor. Thats what a Still birth car looks like.
