Hey I have your 160* and your radiator. I live in upstate ny, its just not hot enough for for the 160. Its great for the track and autoX, but i have to put a peice of cardboard in front of it so it will stay warm durring normal driving conditions in the street.

Do you think a 170* would help it stay more constant? also could one use a the 170* with your ratiator in the winter? or at the point use the 178* stock temp?

Thanks for any help...

Keep up the great work...

The 170 is only 1 degree cooler than stock, so yes it would be alot better in your situation with as cold as it gets up north. The 160 when combined with a larger more efficient radiator can work "too well" in colder climates.

Since I live in Upstate NY I should probably run the 170, correct? However, I am planning a turbo upgrade in the near future. Which would you recommend in that case?

On a stock radiator a 160 would be great in both cold and hot weather, once you upgrade the radiator you will find that the 160 will dip the temps a little low in a colder climate. The 170 although only 1 degree cooler than stock does provide an elevated level of performance.

There is more to a high performance thermostat than just the temp rating.

Our thermostats have increased flow characteristics which allow coolant to move thru the system faster thus improving the cooling systems efficiency.

In a previous post in this thread you said for someone in NY to run a 170, but now you are saying 160. I'm kind of confused now.

If you are planning to stick with the stock radiator then a 160 will work great and you should be just fine even in the winter months.

If you plan to upgrade the radiator at any point to a larger aluminum unit I would suggest that you use a 170 in if you live in the colder climate areas like NY. A 160 combined with a larger radiator will drop the temps too low in the winter months and your heater wont be very hot.
