Default Anybody locally interested in adopting a half completed rally car?

I would like to start by saying that I completely blame Mykrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and Tom for this.

After crewing at LSPR my desire to have a rally car has finally gotten to loud for me to bear. I think it is time to stop messing with the Impreza and get something I will actually be able to compete in (the Impreza would be open class as far as I can tell)

The basics

94 Impreza L chassis
91 Legacy turbo engine
91 Legacy 5mt
91 Legacy turbo rear lsd/suspension etc....
Legacy turbo x-member
Legacy turbo front and rear brakes (vented rears)
RS hood (no scoop / vents)
Interior has been gutted and nearly all sound deadenin removed. I have the door cards, seats and dash remaining.

Needs a bit of work to make it live
Needs to be wired
Needs a driveshaft
Needs a front bumper beam
Needs a rear bumper cover
Some assembly required

I have all the wiring, ecm , turbo (TD04), downpipe etc....

Will include all spares (swaybar, trailing arms) and most of the original parts (abs module, other harness, seats etc...)

Looking to get $1000 for the lot o.b.o

I will come up with a complete list of all the parts tommorow.

This is a non-running project car with no title.

Ben - Build it into an NA FWD Impreza for G2 then you can make it into an AWD when you decide to move up to Open class.

If it's solid it'd be a good platform. You'd just need a cage and all the safety stuff.

Or just buy a used G2 rally car...

I don't like the new system

Had a minor brain fart as the gearbox in the Forester finally took one for the team.

Hey, it only took 45k worth of idiotic driving (and 385lbft torque) to kill it

Best part is, I think I only managed to take one tooth off a gear

We are going with option #2 (ish) except instead of G2 we are looking at PGT.

Buy JC's car then...it'll be easier to get the exemption from RA to run an AWD car since it's low powered. That's why I say build the Impreza into an NA FWD G2 car. If you went WRX in PGT, it might be hard to convince RA that you can handle the car. Do you have any motorsports competition experience?

Have you started pricing out how much it'll be to rally??? It adds up quick.

Actually, we are looking at an older Legacy or Impreza. Whichever it is, 2.2 litres of fury

Matt would be the driver (the kid can drive) and I'll be ballast.

Edit: I used to race on French road, does that count as motorsports experience?

We want AWD because that is what we are used to driving, a fwd or rwd car would actually be more dangerous for us due to the different driving dynamics.

I will have to get the list together tommorow, the gearbox in the Forester is definately dead 42,284 miles of abuse at 385 lbft torque. I'll post pics tommorow (If I remember my camera)

A few hours of playing Hitman should put me in a better mood.

Obviously, I'm not the final say but saying "it's more dangerous for us to drive a FWD or RWD car" probably won't fly with RA. If that were the case, we'd all be driving AWD cars.

FWD prod/G2 cars tend to be slower and promote car control skills rather than all out power.

I'd seriously talk to Mike Hurst & JB about it before you put out the money for a car. I'd hate to see you guys get/prep a car and then not be able to run RA events. Alternatively, you can run NASA/CARS events but that's a touch more travel.

Definitely read the RA rulebook and all the supplementals to see what yer in for.

Good luck n if you need help LMK.
