Default Trick-or-Treat Road Rally Set for 10/28/06

Trick-or-Treat Short-n-Sweet Road Rally
Saturday, October 28, 2006
Rallymonster Bill Demming

Welcome to the Trick-or-Treat Short-n-Sweet Road Rally!

Bill Demming, the Rally"monster" for this trick-or-treat rally will be taking you around the Dimond/Jewel Lake area--we'll see if you fall for his "tricks" along the route! The rally will end for scores and dinner by 5PMish. The entry fee, which includes dinner, is $20 per team and $5 per backseat driver. For more information call him at 243-4625. He wants you to know two things: 1) the rally is set to go--rain or shine and 2) if you don't have a Driver/Navigator team put together, he knows of folks planning to coming that are looking for a partner for the rally, so call him to RSVP (so he has enough copies of the route instructions) and come join in the fun!

This event is the first in the winter season of rallying and the first under the Arctic Alaska Region in two years--please come out and support the rally program. Winter may be here and the solo program done, however there is still activity within the Region!

A rally team is made up of a Driver and Navigator (backseat drivers allowed if your car provides for them) and teams depart out one minute apart in Search of the Great Pumpkin (in this rally anyway) and find checkpoints along the route.

The Trick-or-Treat Short-n-Sweet Rally will be starting at 245P with registration at the Jewel Lake Carr's lunch room, which is near the Deli and Bakery section. Teams will need to pay their $20 entry fee, register and get their vehicles teched by 3:10P, so arrive by 245P. Please park in front of the Oaken Keg store in aisles F or G.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, November 18th, when Rallymistress Kim Ciccone will be sending you on her "A Rally with all the Fixins'"! Same start time of 245P at the Jewel Lake Carr's which is at Jewel Lake and Dimond. See you then...

It is a road rally. Try it out, then you'll know.
I tried my first road rally in 1996 and never stopped competing in them ever since. I just came back from the United States Road Rally Challenge, a national event, last weekend in Kansas.

Everybody should really try road rallying.

Bill called me yesterday to tell me about it. Phil's working so we can't make the rally itself but may stop by later for the festivities and after party to say hello.

Phil, call me...appears you are not getting the SCCA Region mail that gave "early" notice! We must have a incorrect mailing address for YOU!

As for vehicle entries, we have had trucks, '64 Saabs, Vettes, Subaru Justy-WRX, 4-door "family" cars--almost anything goes for rallies. We oft joke that anything put motorcycles and motorhomes.

In speaking to the Rallymaster this morning, he said he knows of folks coming that are not yet in Driver/Navigator "teams" so come give rallying a try and meet so new motorsports folk. You can pair up at registration!

I don't mean to nit pick or anything but if a early notice was out. Maybe someone should of mentioned something. I know I should of just done my registration and everything already(But it doesn't matter because of my military situation). However, a 2-3 days notice is not much for people that arent registered that want to go. Work places usually require 1-2 weeks notice about a personal day off needed. So ya I don't mean to be pointing the finger or anything, but honestly something could of been said or wispered here. I mean alot of the people that are in SCCA events come from AKIC so I don't see why it shouldn't be posted here. Just my .02

On addition, I won't be placing my car in the race because I have one person considering buying it at the moment. If someone needs a navigator I wouldn't mind joining in.

Its not a race, its a road rally. Nothing more than cruising city streets with a navigator telling you when and where to turn.

Bill called me as well, I said I might.. I woudl need a navigator however it looks as though I am working this weekend as well

I may be up for this (the time is right). Anyone up for a navigating duty and to cover the other $10.00 of the entry fee?

Will have to shoot for the November event.

Between illnesses and appointments (oil changes), it's not the best day.

I still haven't discussed rallying with the lady, so we'll see if she's even interested. I figure we'd be best if she drove and I navigated, but she hates taking driving instructions from anyone.

I'm glad there are some winter events going on. Summers get busy.

Default Heard from Peplow - You're a No Go?!?

Brian and Ralphy, are you a team for the Test-n-Tune Short-n-Sweet Road Rally Saturday, registration at 245P, Carr's Jewel Lake? I had e-mail from Peplow that Ralph was a no-go.

RallyMONSTER Bill (drove Datsun Roadster for those of you who went out to some solo events this year) needs to know a "team count" for making route instruction copies and such!

Here's hoping plans have changed and you're going to be able to make it!

A reminder that anyone under 18-years-of-age needs a Minor Waiver signed by both parents to compete -- a couple of options to do this, call Bill at 243-4625 to make arrangements if parents aren't going to be in attendance.

I just gave Ralph a call. He said that it's possible someone contacted his office earlier (about a week or so ago) and indicated a no. However, Ralph said he is a go for the race/ road rally watever. However, he needs to have someone watch his kids tomorrow so he will be giving his folks a call to see if they can do so. So as said after talking to him everything is a go. From what I read I can register tomorrow correct?
