Default intake silencer removal......what!?

Why is it that in the mods section he says to remove the wheel to get this stuff off? I just did this in 15min and didn't remove the wheel, and the cover on the inside of the fender is so easy to remove it's ridiculous! This is not a hard mod and should not be a "puzzle" to complete. Sorry, for ranting but, I've had my car for a little over a year now and I've been meaning to remove the thing but never did because I was scared that it might be "difficult" but I'm a not a mechanic and it was stupid easy.......

The only thing stupid in this thread is you!

The directions in the "mods" section are for a pre 2000 car! You have a different intake :P Try not to blame your cowardice on others

Default The thing that lives in the fender

This is why we have to take the wheel off. It's huge:

That's what happens if you just yank it out of the fender

so what hp gains if any? I already did the battery disconection thing and to me it feels more like a small mid-topend gain......not a lot of topend though, more mid....I'm guessing 3-5hp.....maybe.

I noticed a gain in extra torque/power after 20mph from 2.5k rpm up to around 4k rpm. It doesn't feel sluggish anymore as well, that I have an automotic. I ran aluminum air duct from the
airbox inlet through hole in the fender and down to the front
bumper's little air duct under the fog lamp. I can hear
the authentic boxer sound much louder than before.

I'm still looking for the K&N flat-panel air filter though. I've checked at most places and they're out of stock. Any good online stores that sell 'em for a very affordable price?

Which filter are you looking for this one isn't specified as a Subaru but it fits fine:

http://www.scoobymods.com/mods/impre...filter-maf.php

I opened up the little grill rather than just taking it out:

http://www.scoobymods.com/mods/impreza/bumpervents.php

I think it has a nicer finished look rather than just removing it. I wouldn't run a duct that close to it though. I'd be afraid to suck up water and hydrolock the motor. I think this happened to someone. The air in the fender is cool enough:

http://www.scoobymods.com/mods/impreza/thermal.php

You won't get any ram air benefit to speak of.

Ya, we didnt have to take the wheel off either (did mine today, Woohoo!!!) Just lifted the front end of the car (with jack), turned the wheel, poped the fender from underneeth, unscrewewed the bolts, and vuala!

Mine looks like some sort of toilet aparatus though

But MAN i love the way my car sounds now!!!

Peaty,

Yeah, I was worried about rain and stuff being sucked up there. I guess I will have to put that little grille back on and push the tubing a fit farther up.

Nice little grille! Looks almost like carbon-fiber.
