Default Blouch Dom III

per the blouch web-site

"Looking for Garrett GT full ball bearing performance and efficiency that bolts-on to your WRX/STI? Look no further! The turbo experts at Blouch Performance Turbo have developed this custom performance upgrade to set your Subie project apart from the rest! Initial dyno results indicate substantially quicker spool than the stock VF-39 with significant gains in horsepower and torque. The Dominator III features a state-of-the-art 52 lb/min Garrett GT compressor wheel, a high efficiency Garrett GT turbine wheel, Garrett GT full ball bearing system and adjustable upgrade wastegate actuator calibrated at 15 PSI."

quicker spool than a VF39 with a 52lb turbo?!?!?!?!??? even with the gratest of all voodoo magic, i dont see this happening. i know this was on an STI but still!

thoughts.

Might be possible if they used a really small exhaust turbine housing.... Would severly limit top end though.

Which it doesn't look like they did (after I checked the website), so they are full of crap saying it'll spool faster than the stock turbo.

I have the Dominator III and it hits 24psi at 3800rpm and holds 24psi to redline. So, they seem to know what they are talking about since the vf-39 i had only would hit 18 psi by 3800rpm and then taper down to 15psi by redline. Both Turbos were run on 93 oct gas and also dyno'd on the same dyno.

they can say stock turbo and that could mean that the stock downpipe is also in place, (2 cats). If the dominator III spools the same on a catless setup as a VF39 spools on a stock setup, I think they have the right to make that claim. So it seems fair to me.

BTW, this doesn't apply to a 2.0L forum b/c Blouch has only tested this turbo on 2.5L engines. (I emailed and asked them months ago)

To answer: a lot and a lot, you can't compare turbo vs. turbo in the real world. Read the Turbo FAQ for more info on comparing turbos.
