true and i agreee with that, but they should know enough around here to maybe think that the tranny specialists choose to frequent the AT/MT transmission forum so it might be a good idea to not only explain what the thread is about but also try to get it in the right forum......not to mention when i see posts like that(newb question here) i just roll my arrow over it and like the first two sentences pop up and i can sorta decipher what the thread is about and if it is worth my precious time...

excellent thread unfortunately alot of the forums over here in the uk are the same there seems to be people who have to voice their OPINIONS no matter how irrelevant it is or how knowledgeable they are.

There is no problem with voicing an opinion or answering posts as long as if you dont KNOW it to be fact (in other words, you have more to back it up other than having read it on the internet) then you should in some way, explain that you dont KNOW it. But no one here seems to be able to admit that they dont know everything in the world about every car on the road.

Here is what a lot of people think makes them an expert.

They installed a turboback exh on their subby. It took them 7+ hours.
They installed an AP on their subby. Whoopty friggin do Wow they can push a button.
They swapped springs on their/their buddy's subaru. It took them 7+ hours.
They read a bunch of other posts from people just like them

There ya go. Instant expert at all things subaru.

Then they come here, and someone who has TONS of actual firsthand experience (believe it or not, there are a bunch of us) tells them something that
A. Isnt the same as what they read
B. Isnt what they WANT to believe (this is often because they did something wrong on their car, and they in order to feel like they didnt mess the car up have convinced themselves it was fine)
C. Isnt what they want to hear (This is most common in posts from people with 04 or later WRXs with MBCs or any subaru wanting to run nitrous)
ANd they go off on them telling them that they dont know what they are talking about, they typically infer that the person is a 16 year old kid that knows nothing and is a ricer. Often with a few comments about the persons religion/sexual orientation/mother thrown in for good measure. These people are usually not a nasioc member for more than a year or so as they blow their car up doing exactly what someone told them would blow it up, they sell the car and go buy an F body or GTO

...there is a TREMENDOUS amount of wives tales and 'I heard' and just plain stupid people posting out their asses about things THAT THEY HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO POSSIBLE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT....and then they get all pissy and bent up when they get slapped by someone like Dave....or me or the UB.

kiddies and idiots need to know when to shut the **** up and let the BS posting STOP.

I like this one I saw a while back. This is dummy logic at its best, fueled 100% by the idiots that just constantly repeat what they read, without understanding what they are saying, so they botch it up when they repeat it. Turning good info into garbage.

Here we go.

"I know running a BOV makes you run rich, but I wanted one anyway, then I saw that a cai makes you lean, so I bought one so that they would cancel each other out"

I read that almost word for word about 2 years ago.
What gave this guy that impression?

People blindly spitting out "CAIS make you lean!!!" which is almost never true. If the cai is causing maf problems, it is almost always a problem that makes you both rich AND lean, swinging wildly between the two conditions. Or the fact that not all intakes cause problems.

Same thing with BOVs. They DO NOT make you "run rich". You get a split second of a rich condition right after they vent, and thats it. RIght back to normal A/F. They repeat "run rich" because they dont know what the actual problem with them is, and why some ARE NOT REALLY THAT BAD to run.

Then we have the "reset your ecu" idiotfest.

I dont ask that you KNOW what you are doing to post here. I just ask that you please dont give out info that may be bad. If you dont KNOW, and I mean KNOW, as in firsthand experience, then please state that you THINK that is the answer. Because going back to the "reset your ecu" idiots, resetting the ecu on an 07 can blow the motor.

^ exactly.. Thats why its better to point an OP question to a more discussed thread, rather than trying to BS-answer his question.

Can I emphasize the importance of pictures? A lot of "does this fit" questions get asked and a lot of yes no and maybes get tossed around. Pictures sure do help in proving whether or not something does or does not fit. Sometimes we don't have pics, but it sure is a lot better when you do.

I love when someone comes in saying "no way,, definately wont fit, doesnt even come close" then someone points out that not only does it fit, but they have that part fitted to the same year/model car in question, then the person who said it wont fit, comes back in flaming saying that it definately doesnt fit. All the while the other guy is like "dude, its on, Im looking at it, there it is, fitting! "

Controlls boost

Ok more specifically, controls it better than the stock solenoid, but plugs in (well, wires in) to the stock stuff and works.

What if a thread ends up like this one....

I think for what it is, Nasioc is pretty well regulated. I have been on some forums that restrict where people can talk and it sucks. It completely ruins the experience for anyone who isn't part of the "in" group. All the discussions that are at all interesting are restricted to those who have gone through some convoluted subjective process that doesn't mean anything when it comes to knowledge, post quality, etc. I have also been on forums that aren't moderated at all and things get way out of control it is just lame to read. I think Nasioc has a good number of moderators who compile good FAQs. Some forums I have gone too have the same question asked every week and people keep answering them and wasting time.

As it probably should be with anything on the internet. I understand what is meant by this thread and I applaud the efforts being made, but there is always going to be a certain amount of inherent risk when taking advice from people on the internet. Still, don't get me wrong, I agree with everything said in your original posts. I just wanted to give my opinions.

I'll do my best not to post anything that I don't know for sure... that also means that I'll be very quiet on here, other than to ask questions I'm a fairly new owner and definitely do NOT know much yet!
