Question 91-94 legacy EJ22T(91-94 legacy) Turbo only swap to 97 2.2 impreza??

Will My pistons hold up to the turbo power? I here that the pistons don't have the extra space for the compression, so in essence, it will create more compression. But will my stock engine really handle this? Im not for sure of many of the do's and don'ts here. I know that I will need all of the turbo stuff but what about my cross-over and ecu. I bet i will need the impreza outback hood and downshroud if it will match up. Looks like can use any advice before I go this route. Any advice is better than none so let me know what you think. Thanks

Well, you did say any advice is better than none. I haven't done a swap yet, probably won't any time soon and it's been a while since I've read up on one. But from what I remember, you'll need the crossmember because the turbo cars have a cutout where the downpipe goes and an NA car's crossmember wouldn't give clearance. Second, do you have access to the whole motor from the other car? Because if so please tell me you're not talking about taking the turbo off and scrapping the motor. Most people do the opposite. THe 91-94 turbo legacy is known for having one of the most bulletproof blocks out there. Also with it having the same displacement as your engine, your heads (in theory) should line right up to the shortblock from the older legacy. That leaves you to worry about your fuel and your ecu. Just using the turbo from the older car you could possibly get away with a piggy back and some minor fuel system tweaks but now I'm really just guessing.

The answer is no your pistons won't hold up, plan on getting the block with your setup and continuing with your fuel/ecu questions :-)

filter is right, the best thing about the ej22t is the block, the rest is sorta weak. Besides high compression and crappy pistons, you also have to worry about compatibitlity, like filter said. Up-pipe clearance is definitely an issue, and there are plenty others, trust me...
I bought an entire 1991 legacy SS and only kept the bottom end for my build. (and the turbo crossmember) Doing a hybrid build like I have been attempting recently is a serious challenge, and given a time machine, I would go back and do a full swap.
