AEM standalone? need pro tuner's opinion!!
Hey,
I am in need of some professional's opinion about my current setup in my car! I just dropped a 05' 2.5L STI into my 02' WRX 2.0L car... I am trying to make the current setup work with the 2.5L and running into some tunning problems. Check out my thread of the process at: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1113470 any and all comments you can make would be greatly appreciated! Looking for a tuner in the Greater Michigan Area! Is there a good website to get some research on AEM standalones and or obtain a base map that I can start my car on safely? Looking to get this car on the road asap as it is my daily driver! Thanks for your time and effort! LCKY

When I installed my AEM EMS into my 03 wrx with ej257 block it was the easiest thing ever. The car had modded injectors and a gt35r and FMIC and etc. Your basic unstock car. 30mins later it was driving around as well as the day it was produced. Best money I ever spent. Tuning will take some time for boost but I have loved the AEM EMS so far. How I started was to take the base map from AEM and then do an injector change on the main fuel map from 440 to 770s and then set the tps and it started right up. it ran a little lean at idle so I added some fuel down low. the I took it out for a drive around town. It also interfaces with most any wideband which was nice becuase I already had one installed. Cold starts were pretty easy also but here only gets down into the 30s. Boost tuning took a little time. I would suggest using the boost comp map to do a rough tune and then the main fuel map to do the rest. As soon as I'm satisfied with my map I will start to play with 2 step and nitrous. I'll keep people informed if anyone cares. |

brydon,
I'm really surprised that it worked out that well for you. I've tuned several cars using the AEM ECU and none were like that. One of them was a Honda NA car w/H23 block and H22 JDM cyl head and upgraded fuel system etc. Car would'nt even start on basic cal map. No problem got it running very well later on. Another one that comes to mind was earlier today. A Mitsi Evo with built bottom-end, HKS 280 cams, upgraded FMIC, 720cc injectors, 3.5 Bar Map sensor and running stock 16G for break in. When the car was given to me it wouldn't even start and had 0 miles on it. I had it running shortly after though. Something common beween each of these cars is that the base maps weren't even close. Generally they'll run way too rich as they should being a base map. |

the WRX has a very good base map! however I also played around with a sr20ve in a sentra that was not easy at all. The base map that AEM had would even start the car.
But if you have a wrx get the AEM it is wonderful and has so many things to make it run like a factory car or better. i drove my car to work for weeks before I had time to tune it. All on a base map. The only thing I changed was turning on the o2 comp. It was wired into a PLX wideband. Good luck! If anyone has maps for the AEM you could post them at AEM. This might help people out with getting things running better. |
