Hey all, was wondering if anyone had a parts list of what is needed for a full drivetrain swap from an USDM sti to my RS. and if there is anything different needed from 04 to the 05+ drivetrain or if the parts are interchangeable(or what parts are interchangeable) thanks all

It's a long parts list. You can put pretty much everything on the GC except 05 stock rims IIRC. (04s = 17x8, 05s = 17x8.5)

I swapped as much as I could into my car:

Complete engine, harnesses from front to back, trans, entire rear end, suspension, fuel tank, brakes/hubs/rotors, subframe, k-member & tranny supports/etc... a ton of little parts I sort of lumped them all together. (This is all from an 04 USDM STi)

05 hubs are alot nicer than 04's I beleive. You can even do the interior, or do bits of the interior. The newer clusters will fit in the GC dash with very small amounts of modification to the cluster. Front/rear seats fit.. door cards do not.

There are modifications to the track people typically do during the swap because the track width is wider on the GD's. (GC rear lateral links, and GC front lower control arms.. most go with the aluminum STI ones - People also shim the front control arms - mind you I have done none of those but instead merely rolled my fenders)

thanks for the input. i am just going to roll the fenders to fit the wheels. why do the 05 wheels not fit? do they rub on the inside or on the fender?

I thoguht the 05 wheels will fit if you swap the hubs and brakes to an 05? I know they use a different hole pattern, 5x114 vs. the 5x100 the other Subarus use.

thats what i was thinking also, since the track on the 05 isnt much different if at all from the 04 as far as width. thanks again for all the info.

05 rims are 8.0" wide and 04 rims are 7.5" wide, that is the only reason. If you had 04 rims on the 05 setup it would fit.

Again, I do not know this from experience. I just know this from being told through my searches on here during my swap experience, from people who told me they knew from experience..etc.

*edited* to change wheel widths

I tried googling looking for how wide 04 STi rims are for about 20 minutes and came up with absolutley nothing... I guess the 04's are 7.5 then and 05's are 8? Then the 05's should fit.. but I know I was specifically told the 05 rims will not fit on the GC.. Little drunk and I dont want to search anymore. Bedtime.. nite.

yes. I think the 07 has different ratios, but as far as I know the 04-06 trannys/diffs are interchangeable...

Keep in mind I don't have one, so I may be way off....

If you use the STi rear diff you have to change everything in the rear.

If not you will need to change the gears in your rear diff to get the correct FD ratio, then you can reuse your stock rear.

Keep in mind I don't have one, so I may be way off....

It's gonna cost you alot more if you buy it in pieces, It's gonna nickle and dime you to death. Try and save and then buy a complete drivetrain, THEN you can figure out what little parts you need.
