Default San Diego Mountain Roads Run Sunday Nov 5th

Hey Nasioc,

Hopefully we can get a few cars together for this run.

We will be meeting on Sunday November 5th at the Gas Station at I-15 and Hwy 76 at 8am. Yes, 8:00 in the morning. That way we have the road more or less to ourselves.

PM me if you're interested!

The flame suit has been traded in for a high-five. For this is the kinder gentler n00b infested SCIC.

That doesn't make any sense

The fact that just about every meet is on a weekday, and when one rolls around that's finally on a weekend, on a Sunday (when I usually just sit and play games) I had already made plans which is rare.

Those are some great roads
I miss living in SD and all the canyon runs. Would love to take my STi out there, used to run the GC. Don't forget to stop in Julian. We used to get up early and eat brunch in Julian. Have fun and be safe.

The maturity of NASIOC never fails to disappoint. What is wrong with enjoying some of the best roads in the country with some fellow enthusiasts?

It's not that long when you're having fun. I'd say 2.5~3 hours.

We'll finish in 2hrs or so I'd guess. Depends on Sunday's conditions. I'd prefer that you not attend if you're hungover. For your safety and the safety of others these roads deserve your respect. Go to bed early on Saturday it'll be worth it!

AWJ got annoyed when I tried to organize something similiar a year or so ago. Search for mountain run or something like that on their forums. They got pretty ticked of via PM. I guess no one is allowed to drive together.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to do a fun group drive.

However you never want to post the location of the run... Espically the route. And no, i'm not being immature. Why? Because this is a public forum and law enforcement agents do monitor such threads. Essentially you're telling them "Hey, come out and [try to] bust us even though we're [hopefully] not breaking any laws..."

Best way would have been to simply say "Lets do a group drive in this area, anyone who is interested PM me for information."

Oh, and "Hello!" to any LEO personnel.

That being said, i've driven all the roads on that route multiple times and they're excellent roads. Good luck and keep it safe out there.

You make some great points.

I used to organize these drives for Miataphiles via public forums all the time in Norcal. I've never had an issue. I guess I figure that if they want to catch someone speeding they can at any point in time nab someone one on the freeway. Why work too hard? I drive fast in the curves and the yellow signs are only advisory speeds. I keep the speed quick and reasonable in the long open straight sections and have the V1 for early warning. This isn't a race and wouldn't be confused with one. I don't street race and never have. I consider my love of the road similar to downhill skiing or snowboarding, the real enjoyment is outdoors and connecting a bunch of apexes together.

If some cop and fellow subie enthusiast considers us to be a top priority Sunday morning and alerts his law enforcement buddies then so be it. What a sad state of affairs.

I've found the STi/350z community a little disappointing relative to the Miata community. On average STi/350z drivers have been less likely to autocross, track or drive their cars together. I find it very disappointing that the best real world, point to point car in the world has so few driving enthusiasts in San Diego. I have only three WRX friends and not one of them has ever participated in any of the above activities. Sure the Miata guys and gals were old, but they loved the road.

Since I can't find STI driving enthusiasts locally among my circle of friends then I'm forced to cast a wider net here on Nasioc. I think the additional risk of a public forum is nominal vs. the reward of meeting some good people and enjoying the road.

Happy motoring,
Nick
I hope some of you will come out and enjoy the road.

The reason everyone on this site is flamming this thread is because generally when a group of cars that are usually modified gather to go on a "fun" drive with twisty roads they dont usually obey posted speed laws. So regardless if big brother wants to post up on a blind turn they will catch someone, or everyone whos not going the posted 15mph.

Hell its hard to even take an off ramp at the posted speed limit, you think if imma drive 2 hours to a place where I can rip around corners imma take turns going 5mph?

Just be careful and dont hit any families in SUV's or cause them to run off the road.

And if you do go be careful and watch out for animals or whatever...

It's pretty simple not to cross the double yellow. Ever.

To the original poster, ignore the kids.

I don't remember how many miles long the route is, but I say its about a tank of gas! You're right no need to cut corners.
