Default Whole lot of meth/stage 2 questions.

Basically, I've got a 2005 STi as a daily driver and I'm gonna spring for a substantial increase in power soon..while keeping the factory turbo. Engine wise the car is essentially stock right now; it only has a SPT short-ram intake, and a HKS carbon-ti catback.

Naturally, I'm going to start with a cobb accessport, and downpipe (with a high-flow cat to avoid boost creep) soon. I have a feeling that I'm going to want some type of injection after that.

So, I'm going to have to get a kit, and I'll most likely run 50% meth, 50% water. What daily-driver safe kit do you recommend, and do you think I could install it myself easily? Obviously, I don't want to pay THAT much, but I can imagine what would happen if I ran out of meth, or the nozzle clogged and it didn't alert either me first or retard timing, etc. So I'm guessing one that is safe is on the top of my list.

Then once I've installed it myself (assuming I can), I could drive it somewhere, hook it up, and get a protune for it? I would want to retain the Stage 2 off-the-shelf map to switch to if I was ever to run out of meth, and I think that's possible with the Accessport?

Any idea of how much $$ the kit and protune would cost, and what WHP gains I'd expect? Over 300 awhp safely? Also do I need any supporting mods with the meth now that I'll already be at stage 2? I wouldn't think so, but if there are some low cost mods that could squeeze a little more out of the car, then I'd do it.

Thank you! And yeah, I did see the recent stage 2, 100% meth dyno, but there was some uncertainty off the baseline numbers...I just want a general consensus from you guys, and some recommendations while you're at it.

you should have no problem with the install as long as you are ok with mechanical things. i have the SMC kit which is very easy to install and fairly cheap but does not offer any safety things. you can switch between maps on the accessport so that shouldnt be a problem. there are several things you could do cheaply to get some extra power (porting exhaust manifold, tumbler deletes... search around you will find several)

You should be able to get 300+whp and torque pretty easily. It could cost anywhere from $400(chances are more like $1000) and up for the kit and protune depending on how much you pay for each. Some kits come with more/better safety devices, and the safety devices might depend on how the car is tuned, so make sure your tuner is aware of what the kit is capable of and how to tune for it correctly to make it as safe as possible.

peace

I have an 05 sti and recently added the smc kit to it. 50/50water and methanol. My stage 2 tune made 286 hp 335 tq and with the meth i made 313 hp and 375 tq. I had it tuned with the cobb accessport. i bought the kit for 400 and the tune costed 300.

I have seen the smc kit for about 500 from gruppe-s http://www.gruppe-s.com/Subaru/subeng.htm, and I have heard of some people running that with a meth safe switch from snow (universal?) for about 100 from slowboy http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=5865&. as for cheeper power adders you could go with a catless dp and then go with an External waste gate, that sould be able to control boost pretty well. and you can switch from map to map w/ an ap and protune.

Good god that is a lot of torque... are those numbers typical of meth injection + tune? I just installed my snowperformance stage 2 w/safe injection and was going to get a custom tune for my base mods, and then a custom tune with meth, but there ended up being some problems with my meth kit... so it was a no go. But my custom tune for the base mods only got me 283/304. I'm hoping I can get anywhere near the numbers your car is putting down.

This is CA with 91craptane btw...

If you're looking for ease of installation, I would go with the SMC kit, along with the Snow failsafe. You should be over 300 whp/tq even without the alcohol, depending on the add'l mods. You don't have to worry about the boost creep w/o a cat if you have the Accesport. My car did 343/366 with stg 2 type mods and Coolingmist stg 2 kit. I definitely recommend the alc injection, adds a buttload more torque, and resists knock, even at 24 psi in 4th or 5th gear on the VF39.

As far as low cost supporting mods- boost control solenoid (GM, Prodrive), and 1 step colder plugs (NGK, Denso Iridium).
