So I'm checking the oil level on my WRX today at 250 miles. Like my other Subaru, the entire stick is covered in oil so it must be wiped clean and re-dipped to get a good reading. To my surprise, wiping it off on a white rag, the oil is green!!!
Dark green for sure, but defintely green. There is no separation as if it were oil mixed with water. It smells like normal oil. I called the dealer this morning and they said that this is the oil the car comes with and it is normal. They did not change the oil on the car before delivering it to me. Someone tell me that they have seen this in their WRX. Mean

Haven't seen it in my Scooby, but I've seen green motor oil before.
Kendall GT-1 is as green as you can get. Its a high detergent motor oil that supposed to keep things from sludging up. Nothing to worry about in my opinion, just good clean oil from Subaru! |

Green might be the color of the special "break in" oil Subaru uses. I could be wrong though.

New cars tend to have a lot of extra breakin / protection additives in them, i would say that this is normal. Although if you change your oil at 3000 miles and notice that it turns up green again I would say you have some sort of problem, maybe a coolant leak?

Every WRX has green motor oil from the factory. Mine was green so is the oil in ever other WRX that has the original factory fill.
Relax and enjoy the boost. |
