Exclamation Legacy wagon to be cancelled for MY2008 - complain to SOA!

(link to Legacy STI wagon poll)

THE WAGON IS DEAD IN THE USA FOR MY2008
BUT STILL AVAILABLE IN CANADA FOR MY2008

For MY2008 the Legacy wagon is gone for the US market. Officially confirmed by Samir Hassan of SOA. It has been also officially confirmed that the Legacy wagon will be available in the refreshed form for MY2008 in Canada.

Isn't it ironic that the car is made right here in Indiana only for Canadian market? It is probably the only example in the automotive history of a Japanese car made in the US solely for Canada.

Please let the manufacturer and the dealers know, if you are unhappy with disappearance of Legacy wagon. They could offer it at least on special order basis!

-------------------------------------------------

There are rumors floating on legacygt.com that Legacy wagon will be cancelled altogether for MY2008 in the US market. This is truly ironic as that Legacy wagon is the worldwide Subaru flagship.

While wagons are not easy sellers in the U.S. market it's the worst time to give up on them. SUV mania is fading away. People will look for practical yet sporty vehicles. If not anything else, many Subaru ethusiast driving WRX wagons will be left without option to upgrade to a bigger car within Subaru family. Legacy GT Wagon seems like natural upgrade path for the sporty WRX, while Outback or Tribeca certainly not!

If you would seriously consider purchasing a Legacy wagon in the future, or know someone who would - please let SOA know. Please also ask for reviving manual transmission option for Legacy GT wagon, that was available only in MY2005. The latter is hard to explain, given that Legacy GT manual wagon is still manufactured at the Indiana plant for Canadian market!

If you would be interested in a premium sports wagon - like Legacy GT Spec.B wagon or even Legacy GT STI wagon - please let SOA know.

Here is the link to SOA's contact web page.

Please note: give them your real name and preferably VIN of your Subaru if you own one. Voice of a verified Subaru owner has more weight. Please be honest in your feedback - no need to mislead Subaru if you are not serious about buying these cars.

Below is a picture of Legacy (tuned by) STI - the car SOA could sell us if they only wanted:

They'll still sell Outback wagons, right? That seems to be SOA's focus.

Sure they do, and Outbacks outsell Legacies by 2 to 1 (source).

Anyway Outbacks with their jacked up suspension and terrible handling are not an answer for a sporty wagon even in the XT turbocharged trim.

Some maybe, I don't ask SOA to stop selling Outbacks.

I ask that WRX wagon owners and other folks looking for a sporty wagon with good handling have an option in the Subaru family. If you never drove a Legacy GT, please do yourself a favor and test drive one. You will understand why many would prefer it over an Outback.

Impreza is losing its wagon for the 2008 model year, too. At least that will kill off that Outback Sport thingy.

Is that evidence of the move to hatchbacks or is SOA truly insane? The WRX Wagon has been a substantial % of WRX sales and lately it had been picking up % wise versus the sedan.

I remember one month where something like 40% of all impreza sales were wagons (jon don't kill me, I am pulling a remembered stat out of my ass/head)

Good riddance. When they killed the 5MT in the Legacy GT wagon, it died in my mind.

The funny thing is that I probably would have bought a Legacy GT wagon had it been available in a 5MT. My deposit is at another automaker's dealership right now. I wanted something nice inside, sporty, hatchback/wagon, and a stickshift. Subaru wasn't able to give me that. (The Impreza limited is faux-nice inside. It still feels like an Impreza where the Legacy is actually pretty nice inside. The interior of my brother OBXT is excellent.)

I had to voice my complaint. I'm a current sedan owner, and if things worked out, I was planning on moving to a wagon in a few years.

Hopefully they'll listen.

i'm sorry i dont think the Legacy wagon will be discontinued.. if it is they're DEFINITELY trying to go more mainstream with the Legacy... if the legacy wagon will be killed, the Outback sedan should be killed.. why? to kill the cross shopping for the sedans and just leave it to the Legacy for sedans... i also doubt the impreza wagon will be killed.. look at the spy shots THOSE ARE WAGONS/HATCHES.. do i wanna argue what is a hatch or a wagon? no.. but there seems to be a window in the trunk area vs. the no window in trunk area hatch (such as the golf)

Acura or Lexus never sold a wagon. Honda stopped selling the Accord wagon in the US years ago, Toyota the same with the Camry. Nissan? No idea.

Wouldn't suprise me to see Subaru drop the Legacy wagon. I don't really agree with it if it does happen.

the market does not seem to support being upset by this move folks, plain and simple, the legacy wgn is one of the slowest selling cars in the US market for Subaru and that will be the reason,if it is indeed gone in 2008............

Email sent using the link above. I think if enough people do this we could show SOA that we really want at least a Legacy Wagon Spec B if not an STi version as well.

Keep on sending those emails....

Considering the amount of people that I know who own Legacy wagons, that seems rediculous.. but I suppose the reason that people aren't buying them is because everyone who wants one, already has one.

Yet another car killed for me by not offering a stick. That was one sexy sport wagon. The company I work for was selling one about a month back. (Our upper management gets a new car yearly, so their old cars are sold to employees.) Something like 15k miles, 2005 (I think), and $20k. It was in that really nice dark silver too. The autobox made me sad.

Yes, the same source says Outback sedan will be killed. Deservedly so, because it's plain ridiculous.

Offering the H6 in jacked up sedan with body cladding on gumball tires, but not offering that engine in Legacy was truly a great idea.

^^^Yeah, not interested in an automatic wagon, anyway. I would buy a 6MT- or SMG-equipped Legacy Wagon STI.

To date the Legacy Wagon offerings have been too mild to get me out of my beloved '02 WRX Wagon and, therefore, not worth spending more money on.

Well, Legacy is easily moddable - have STI motor after all, just with smaller turbo. Many great suspension upgrades available as well. You can easily make it wild!!!!

This thread is retarded...

There is no evidence to support the cancelation of the legacy wagon Subaru has said no such thing and has no such plans, this is all just a dimented psychotic rumor trumpted by a few diehards on Legacygt.com

I really do hope you are right. If nothing else, please ask SOA for MT GT wagon and/or SpecB/STI wagon - if you think you would seriously consider buying one. It would be unfair to generate noise without taking our money where our mouths are.
