Default How much to install EGT?

I just wanted to see how much everyone paid to have their EGT installed. I got quoted $400-500 or more to have it installed! I refuse to pay that much money and it seems extremely rediculous to me! Especially seeing the gauge itself was 100 the probe another 100 and then 500 on top of that. NO WAY the EGT is that important! I think Im getting royally screwed so someone let me know how much this should ACTUALLY cost.

I wouldn't pay more than 50$. Really you should do it your self, it is very easy to do.

An exhaust place can drill and weld a bung for the probe for around $30. This amount was what I paid to have mine welded. You can install the gauge and run the thermocouple lead through the firewall yourself.

there are two types of probes... one of them is rather "bolt-on" and you can do yourself. The other(better) one you have to drill into your header and weld the bung in place and then install the probe. I went to midas and it cost be about 25 bucks I think. DON"T GO THERE. They did the ****tiest job ever! instead of cutting away or otherwise neatly removing the heat shielding, they just burned thru it w/ the welder! it looks like ass, and I really wouldn't be surprised if it was leaking... anyway, any decent shop(read not Midas) should be able to do it for a fairly decent price and do a good job... I took my car to another guy to get some exhaust work done, and he said it was the crappiest welding he'd seen in 35 years... He said they should have paid me for doing that to my car...

I'm having my probe installed on Friday. The shop I'm going to wants $75 for the probe install, which doesn't seem to bad. They want $190.00 for a Greddy EGT 60mm gauge w/the peak hold feature. I didn't realize they were this much. Are they asking too much or should I just buy from them?

That might be a little high for just the guage, but it is GReddy, which generally isn't the most inexpensive... but they're not cheap... at that 25 bux I paid was just for the welding... I wired everything and mounted the pod myself...
