Well 360 is established and has a great game lineup already, so its not a bad idea. I just couldn't justify buying a 360 because I own a ton of PS2 games and wouldn't be able to play them if I wanted down the road. PS2 died a few months ago and I've been craving Madden! Ahhh, can't wait for tomorrow morning! I kinda want a Wii now too!

Reading through some of these ps3 forums and these people are still pissed about the price. I just laugh and think... Jeez, they have no idea! Try owning a Subaru!

Gamers brave freezing weather, store lottery for latest video craze

By Robinson Duffy
Published November 16, 2006
Posted in Local, News

At first the four men looked like they’re homeless — wearing frost-covered ski masks and huddled under thick sleeping bags outside of Wal-Mart.
“One guy said, ‘Get a job,’ and he was really mean about it,” said Ben Clooten, 21.
In fact, so many people thought they were panhandling that the four Fairbanksans scrawled a message on a piece of cardboard: “Will Freeze for PlayStation 3.” And they just might at that.
Even with the temperatures forecasted to dip to 15 below zero with a possible wind chill of 30 below, some diehard fans had already started camping out on Wednesday in front of Wal-Mart in order to be the first to buy the new PlayStation 3 video game console when it comes out on Saturday.
“We’ve got to be the coldest people in the whole world that are waiting for this,” Michael Swift, 28, and the first person in line, said.
Swift and Clooten had been at Wal-Mart since 8:30 Wednesday morning and were planning on staying there, no matter what the weather, until one minute after midnight on Saturday morning, when Wal-Mart plans to open its doors to sell them the console, which will cost up to $600 for a high-end model and $500 for the basic model.
The four men said they consider themselves lucky they thought about getting in line so early, especially since they found out that Wal-Mart will only have four of the consoles available for sale on Saturday. Tim Erickson, the manager of Wal-Mart in Fairbanks, said he originally thought the store would have 10 available, but that the manufacture only shipped four.
“The first four in line will get them. Then we will issue a total of six rain checks for six others,” Erickson said.
Other stores in Fairbanks were facing similarly small quantities of the consoles. Fred Meyer West will only have eight of the consoles for sale on Saturday morning, according to Anthony Perkins, the store’s electronics manager. When the store opens at 7 on Saturday, he said, they will hold a random drawing to determine who gets to buy a PS3, as the console is lovingly called by video game fans.
Both of the GameStop stores in town have already presold all of their consoles, although employees at the stores refused to say how many total they received.
The four frigid fans in line outside of Wal-Mart said they were skipping university classes and ditching out on work in order to guarantee they got a chance to buy one of the new game systems.
James Caruso, 33, works at Lowe’s, next to Wal-Mart. He was on his lunch break Wednesday, he said, when he saw the line already forming at Wal-Mart. He called his employers and told them he wouldn’t be coming back from lunch, and then he went out and joined the line.
The Playstation 3 is the latest so-called next-generation video game console to be released. A video game console is a computer that players hook up to a television so that they can play a variety of video games. The individual games are not included with the console and can cost $50 or more.
Sony Corp., the company which manufactures the PlayStation 3, is touting this latest console for its dazzling graphics. The PS3 also will be able to connect to a special high-speed network so gamers from all over the world can play against each other or even just browse the Internet. Besides playing games, the PS3 doubles as a DVD and CD player and will have a hard drive to store digital images and music files.
Erickson said he couldn’t believe it when he saw people already in line to buy a PS3 on Wednesday morning. He said he doesn’t mind if they set up tents or have propane heaters, just as long as they don’t get in the way of customers coming in and out of the store.
“We will check on them every couple of hours, and if it (the weather) gets too bad, we will let them into the vestibule,” Erickson said.
Swift said he can understand people who think he’s crazy for waiting outside for almost two full days in subzero temperatures just to buy a video game console.
“It does take a lot of intestinal fortitude to be out here,” he said.
But it will definitely be worth it, Swift said, and his fellow video game fans agreed.
“I’m a geek at heart, I am. I’ll admit it,” Caruso said.

Midtown Walmart had 6 in stock as of this morning around 9am, with Fedex perhaps bringing in another 5, so total of 11 possibly for them. No idea what Dimond has or is getting stock wise.

* no more PS3's in today, so just the 6 they have in stock, but for those looking at the new Nintendo, they have 33 of them!

Heard there were 11 people in line at Walmart around 9am this morning...pretty crazy.

I never had any problems with my PS2! I got it at midnight when it launched. It's also been my main, and only DVD player too. It's quite the little trooper! It even holds up well when I throw controllers at it and call it names, during some of my 'less awesome' times of proper behavior.

My gamecube held up well too.

It's the way the game is set up.

instead of being like a PC FPS where you turn your mouse and the screen turns, with the Red Steel you move the controller over, then it goes, with it. so, the screen follows the movement instead of being the movement.

IGN has been ripping on the game because of that. basically saying 'this doesn't control like we want it to, like normal FPS's, so it's not that rad'.

yeah that was the big discussion on Attack of the Show this morning that the prices and lack of PS3 for launch might force some people who just want a gaming system to grab a 360 simply because one happens to be there.

Yeah, this is realy going to kill the ps3 market not having enough when another very competative, cheaper system is available. I just wish the xbox had wlan, bluray, and 1080p.

Thing is, how many people have a tv that can even display the 1080p. Second, bluray doesn't make the graphics better; it's just a larger storage device. There are games for the 360 in the works that will use 4 discs. The 360 has essentially the same graphics capabilities as the ps3, you'll just have to change the discs out, like a long movie.
And, microsoft has already released an HD DVD add on for the 360.

Yeah just went by there about an hour ago. There's about 15 people standing in line at wal-mart. Pretty messed up if there's only 10. I would wait in line, but I rather not wait in line for 18 hours and then be told, sorry, we only have 6. At least 8 of those people will get told that, but oh well.

According to the store manager there were people in line at 4AM this morning....

I have a 67" 1080p, it will be nice not having to change out discs, bluray also = hd dvd's, and I think blu-ray is going to win the race against HD-DVD, and I dont want to have to buy another add on to play highdef movies. Either way if I do get a ps3 I will sell it right away, then turn around and buy another one when the second batch gets here. So I will essential get a 360 and a ps3 for free +profit (that is if I am able to get a ps3)

Oh yeah?! well, well, I'm going to play my Wii which is only $250.00 on my moms 1987 Magnavox 40" Bigscreen. That's right, it's awesome. This TV is so powerful and high definition that it blurs together yellows, greens and reds! BEAT THAT!

(I'll be buying myself a 40+/-" HDTV pretty soon for myself.....)

bleh.. no thanks. we'll wait a year or so before getting one. besides, who needs 60" screens when you can have 105"?? :P

of course, my projector is only 720p, not 1080p, but again... in a year or so, we'll replace it. until then, it'll work fine. home theater on a budget.

FYI, the xbox 360 has a new update over Live that enables 1080p, and some other stuff.

I guess Best Buy had no choices but to do a raffle. Honestly I thought that was pretty lame. Had a better chance lining up at Wal-Mart around 4AM and waiting all day long.

Oh well. I also hear that Sony is only shipping 250,000 to the USA now instead of 400,000. If that's true I feel sorry for everyone that did a pre order on Ebay, most pre orders won't be delivered....
