Default Need help on which subaru to buy!

Hey guys, I got 2 WRX's in my area that im currently looking at.

Car1: 02 WRX, W/ 121,000 miles. Seems to be in good running condition. The dealership is looking for $11,000.

Car2: 02 WRX, w/ 51,000 miles. BUT... Its got a thrown rod in it. (waht the sales man told me, not sure what it is, but its a loud ticking noise!) I just sounds terrible. And the car sales man said that guy who had it drove it around for a week like that! The front bumper on this car needs to be re-painted. and the key lock for the driver side door is missing. They looking for $6,900.

This is were i need the help. For car2, what would be a better route for me, finding a new engine. or rebuilding the current engine. Iv spent 2 hours looking for engines online, and all i can find is JDM motors. And what iv read in your guys's forums, its easier using a USDM motor. if you guys know of some good website for finding good USDM engines, please let me know!!

Then theres car1 thats just fine, but its got 121,000 miles on it. I dont know how longs those ej20 engines last, or what kinda of problems ill run into down the road w/ that car.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!
Thanks!!!!!

If I were in your shoes I would keep looking since I wouldn't want to go with either of your two options. If I HAD to make a deciscion I would go with Car1 though.

Good luck!

dont buy either one, you could find a much nicer car for a similar price,

# 1 has too many miles
# 2 sounds like its been beat to hell

patience is a virtue my friend...

keep in mind it is more then just an engine swap, chances are if an '02 was beat that hard the transmission is not far behind. and #1, that is WAAAAY overpriced, although i'm assuming they are really willing to work on that. to give you perspective, i bought my 02 a couple months ago, under 50k miles, for barely more then that. mint condition.

#1 is too expensive for the mileage. #2 will have other hidden problems as well as the obvious.

Keep looking.

I second this becasue it is the best thing to do in your position. If you are lucky you might come accross an 04/05 for a little bit more.

Thumbs down

The sale guy is rippin you, I just bought an '02 in blue book "Excellent" condition inside and out with 85k on it for 9,500. I realize i got a good deal but 11,000 with 121k is a joke.
