Default Computer Question

I know there are several computer "experts" out there who can help me with a question. If I have a system that I want to test (ensure appropriate working functions for another user), is there a site or product/program that I can use that would simulate heavy activity? Something that would push the processor, memory and hardware? Somthing other than the diagnostics embedded in the computer (Dell Latitude D610)?

Try out Super Pi http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=36
Or Prime 95 http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm

Let either of the programs run for a good hour or two.

If you have a multicore processor or dual processors run two instances of the program and set the affinity for each to one of the cores (you can do this in the ctrl+alt+del), ones you have two of the programs running right click on the process and go to set affinity, and set one of them to 0, and the other to 1.

not sure if they still have this for download but pcmark or 3dmark from www.madonion.com works pretty well for benchmarking.

edit: just noticed they changed madonion to futuremark lol, but the link still works to madonion

http://www.futuremark.com/download/ link to their main download page
