i'm not sold on the new gti, it's huge and gross looking. the engine might have fair potential but when the car is so heavy and still just fwd... no thanks

lol... dune buggy ftw. the new jetta looks horrible, what happened to their far superior designs from the 90s? crappy appearance, no more vr6, so many quality problems with electronics... VW seems to be circling the drain lately.

dsg is the best thing they have going for them and i dont even like slushboxes!

Have you driven a new GTI? I'm sold on it enough that mine is in Germany right now being built. It's simply a fun car to drive. Awesome gearbox, engine, and interior. Stock for stock, I think it outhandles a WRX. It feels like a bigger version of my fiancee's MINI Cooper S.

The new wolfsburg is a huge disappointment, IMO. It is pretty much a base Jetta w/ a couple options... far from what I'd expect when hearing "wolfsburg". Is the wolfsburg even built in Germany? For some reason I'm thinking it's built in Mexico like the other A5 Jettas.

yeah, I took the new GTI for a test drive too (well, it was a jetta GLI..same thing). Very good power, the DSG tranny is superb, and the interior is leaps and bounds over that in my WRX. I still chose the Subie tho...I like my AWD and the overall subie-ness

I usually HATE VW...but the GTI is definately worth a close look.

I'm with pjhe on this, what happened to the Wolfsburg being a performance oriented model?

I remember the last one had the 1.8T.

yeah the mkI and mkII wolfburgs were 16v valves (1.8 and 2.0 liter depending on year) recaros, bbs wheels, and gti suspension
the mkIII was a bit of a dud too though, 2.0, tinted taillights, rear wing, gti suspension and 5 spoke "flying" wheels
the mkIV was the 1.8t in 150hp trim, bbs RXII's
