Another vote for Mobil 1 synthetic. I tend to use 0-30 in the winter and 5-30 in the summer for my Prius, and since the Boxster is only a summer car, 5-50.

remember not to use synthtic until you have broken in your engine, even still the longer you wait the better.

Engine break-ins should be done with dino oil, but if you wait too long to switch, your seals may not be able to hold the synthetic quite so well once they're conditioned to regular oil.

Mobil 1 is great.

When I did my original WRX swap into a 94 Impreza I had a problem with 1 of the wires that basically caused it to only spark on 3 cylinders. It was still sending gas into the 4th, which would then burn off in the uppipe cat. That caused the turbo to get hot enough to glow bright red during any semi spirited driving(this was in the middle of the winter also, no shortage of cooling air). I drove the car like that for a few weeks till I figured out the wiring issue. Mobil 1 held up to the abuse and that turbo kept working great right up to the day I swapped a VF34 in at about 40000 miles.

See, I never understood that, nor have I asked. I know conventional oil is recommended for engine break-in, but my '99 Boxster (and maybe my '00, I haven't looked) had a sticker that mentioned Mobil One was the factory fill from Porsche. If that were the case, the engine might never break in. I think the same is true for a few other manufacturers, as well.

I've heard this before as well. I switched to Castrol Syntec for one oil change back when I had a CRX (40K miles on the engine) and it consumed over a quart of oil (no external leakage) in 1000 miles. I switched back to conventional. I've used Mobil 1 on every car since (including my turbo CRX and my WRX) and I've had no external leakage issues.
