GM will unveil H4 concept @ 2007 Detroit auto show

http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl.../FREE/61120003

Quote:
DETROIT -- General Motors' Hummer brand will unveil an H4 concept vehicle in January at the Detroit auto show, sources close to the automaker say.

The vehicle would be a smaller truck that would compete with the Jeep Wrangler. A production version likely would be built for the 2010 model year.

GM is also working on an H3 pickup that would be available in the 2009 model year, sources say.

"They want to broaden the product lineup for Hummer because they have had quite a degree of success with the H3 SUV," says Erich Merkle, director of forecasting at IRN Inc. in Grand Rapids, Mich. "The H2, in this environment, is too large. It's overkill."

The H3 is built on the small-pickup architecture used by the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. It is unclear what architecture GM would use for the H4, but a source says it will not be a front-wheel-drive architecture

H3's already built on the Colorado platform I'm pretty sure, that thing's going to be tiny, by Hummer standards.

I actually rather like the H3, which I find hard to believe but it's true.

Have you seen the H3 with the ASC open roof concept... that is cool stuff. I would like to see Hummer offer a very Jeep wrangler type vehicle. I think that is where the H4 fits in.

i saw this concept in its early stages on a tour of the GM design studio over a year ago. i was suprised not to see it at last year's Detroit show.

it resembled exactly what the article referrs to it as, a Wrangler type vehicle built by Hummer.

Every other Vehicle GM makes gets bigger with each revision. The Hummer, gets smaller each time.

I predict the H7 to be announced as a Miata competitor.

The hummer used to cure small penis disease, so they made them as big as possible.

Owners then began developing huge head disease, and that forced designers to shrink them back down.

We are trying to find a happy medium between having a small penis, and having a huge head.

I was hoping they were talking about a car with a horizontally opposed 4-cylinder engine....

why were you hoping for that? GM would just find a way to screw it up.

My dad runs a Hummer dealer here in Michigan and his Regional Rep came in today. Said the H4 is a go. Man I hope they build this thing correctly. If it is really going to be as small as they say, it better be built like a Wrangler and be able to really get dirty or it will not take off.

IF they make a small hummer aka wrangler size with SERIOUS off-roadability...

It will be a huge hit!

Make it a diesel 4-cylinder turbodiesel and I might want one.

The H3 is based on the Colorado platform. It is the same Inline 5 engine and some of the interior bits are exactly the same. If they make the new Hummer look like a Hummer and a bit like the new 4 door Jeep it could have some serious potential.

The H4 will be a direct Wrangler competitor I'm sure.

Wrangler competitor in GM's minds, but not in the enthusiasts as the chances of it having solid axles in the both the rear AND FRONT are very slim.

give us a solid front Axle, short over hangs, and 32"+ size tires and you got a competitor!

You put solid axles and you'll have people complaining that GM is trying to cut corners on making cars with 1800 technology, just like pushrods and leafsprings

/sarcasm

I wonder can DCX still sue GM for making the Hummer resemble a jeep. Remember the case a few years ago about the 7 slatted grille? How do you think DCX would take it when the H4 comes out? heh

The H3 pickup would just be an Isuzu Colorado. That 5 cylinder engine is an Isuzu creation, not GM

Because in case you haven't noticed... People are still buying tons of trucks and SUV's even though they have no practical reason to
